Overview and History

The Quibbler is a periodic magazine with roughly one issue a month. The magazine, founded by Xenophilius Lovegood, prides itself on being the Wizarding World's Alternative Voice. The magazine features exposes, tabloids, new magical theory, interviews, character pieces, political cartoons, commentary, puzzles and once a recipe for Pineapple Inside-Out Pie. Other goodies occasionally come with the Quibbler including snatch-and-sniff cards and Spectrespecs, special glasses rumored to allow the wearer to see invisible things like Wrackspurts and hidden articles printed in the magazine using invisible ink.

The magical community at large considers The Quibbler a "lunatic rag" with too many baseless, ridiculous conspiracy theories. However there have been times the Quibbler has stepped up as the voice of Truth. The Quibbler was instrumental in revealing Voldemort's return to power and was the initial publisher of Rita Skeeter's interview of Harry Potter about the fateful night of the TriWizard Tournament. When the Death Eaters took over the Ministry and the Daily Prophet the Quibbler was the only publication that spoke the truth until Luna Lovegood was abducted to force her father into silence.

Since the end of the Second Wizarding War, interest in the Quibbler has expanded as it continues to provide the Alternative Voice. No longer produced solely by the the Lovegood family, the Quibbler staff has grown with new writers and editors and has two printing presses, the original being at the Lovegood's home in Ottery St. Catchpole. The magazine is also supported by advertisements from investors that "have an appreciative sense of humor." The Quibbler also accepts donations and IOUs.

Issues of The Quibbler are published during the last days of the month prior (The September issue released on August 31st, for example). Between full issues there is a new feature called Quibs From A Squib where the staff Squib writes little blurbs based on the muggle concept of 'tweetering' (you know, invisible tiny owls that can carry only one character of text at a time to foams). Quibs From A Squib is a perforated pamphlet with 14 article blurbs in 149 characters or less. The slips can be ripped apart for use as bookmarks and each has a different scratch-and-sniff scent. The amount of possible scents almost rivals Bertie Bott Every Flavor Bean flavors (though Wet Dog shows up 6 time out of 10). Also, the blurbs correspond to upcoming articles in the next full issue. Once published, sticking the blurb bookmark in a Quibbler at random will open you up to the corresponding article the next time you peruse the magazine.
