Mabel Shufflebottom

From Absit Omen Lexicon
(Redirected from Mabel Gamp)

Mabel Shufflebottom married Edmund Gamp in the late seventies. They were twenty-five and thirty-five respectively at the time, quite fond of each other. Mabel had been doing secretarial work at the small trading company in which Edmund was a founding partner. The trading company didn't last (Edmund went on to join a larger one in a less major capacity) but their marriage certainly did. In spite of their good chemistry, however, the couple could not conceive.

They adopted their first and only child barely a month old, in December 1981. Edmund decided to name her Adrestia Gamp - he had been inspired by the astronomical and mythological names of his various nieces and nephews.

Most parents would dote on an only child. Mabel and Edmund did not. They had a nice home in High Wycombe, which benefitted from the joyous sound of a laughing daughter, but their experience did not encourage having a larger family. They were satisfied with Tia. Mabel stopped working to stay at home and run the house, so it was just the two of them a lot of the time.

To Mabel's pleasure, Adrestia was sorted into Ravenclaw.
