A passionate healer from Co. Donegal, Ireland, Tadhg Ó Briain is on a very personal mission. But with no bite and very little bark, will he succeed? ==Appearance== A modest 5’10” tall and an average weight for his size and build, Tadhg is lean. He enjoys running and swimming but his favourite method of keeping fit is surfing, which he is excellent at and contributes to his great sense of balance. He has dark brown, medium length hair, which often curls at the front. His bright blue eyes can be quite arresting, but perhaps it might be the thoroughly Roman profile that draws the gaze. His nose is large, aquiline, his jawline square and his chin protrudes slightly. Tadhg is very softly spoken, which is quite soothing for his patients, but sometimes, coupled with his rather thick Donegal accent, he can be difficult to understand. He doesn’t mind being asked to repeat himself. When not in his work robes or a wetsuit, Tadhg dresses very casually in loose athleisure wear or when out to the pub, simple slacks or jeans and comfortable jumpers. ==Personality== Wednesday’s child is said to be full of woe. But in Tadhg’s case, it might be less sorrow, not so much melancholic, more meditative, or filled with deep thoughts and unanswered questions. Brooding sometimes, sure, though he’s not of unpleasant nature. Tadhg feels a lot; he just does not really know how to express that sometimes. And while he might seem like the strong and silent good Irish country lad type, he’s not without his charm. Tadhg appears and acts as a lone wolf, but really he wants to find his pack. He is a kind individual, filled with compassion and a desire to help and mend. He can turn down no stray. He is a deep well without a bucket. He probably composes poetry about the ocean in his mind. ==History== The Ó Briains (pronunciation: oh-bree-an) are a very old, very well-known [[Ireland|Irish]] wizarding family. They can trace their lineage back thousands of years, though this isn’t quite so impressive to the Irish magical community as it appears to be in other countries. Nonetheless, theirs is a recognisable name, and as such, certain expectations are attached to it. The Ó Briain clan is a large one, with family members in Dublin, Cork City and throughout Co. Donegal. Family reunions are a noisy and chaotic affair. The Donegal Ó Briains are usually the less refined of the bunch. Having grown up in Bundoran and the surrounding scenic areas, the family were mostly focused on living a quiet life on the wild Atlantic coastline. Seán (shaw-n) has worked for the Aireacht na Draíochta (Ministry of Magic) in the Ghoul Task Force assigned to the Ulster region of the island of Ireland for decades, while Caoimhe (kwee-vah) is a prominent healer at St. Brigid’s Hospital for the Care of Living Things in Co. Kildare. Together they have three children: Conor, Tadhg (tie-g) and Gráinne (graw-nya). Tadhg could very easily have suffered the fate of many middle children, but as a boy he was quite comfortable with receiving less attention. His brother, Conor, was big and strong and quite rowdy, while his younger sister Gráinne was curious and sweet, and the daughter both parents were secretly longing for. Tadhg was stoic and emotionally distant from an early age and he often sought his own company frequently. Drawn to the ocean, he spent many early mornings and late nights on the beach, sometimes surfing, or reading if the weather allowed, but always thinking. His mother was once heard to remark, “The lad thinks so hard, that I wouldn’t be surprised to learn he’s thought us all into being.” It was when Tadhg attended Tóraigh that he began to feel comfortable enough to reveal more of himself. The school, secreted on Tory Island off the coast of Donegal, is renowned for producing well-disciplined students and it prides itself on theory and academic standard. It is perhaps not as popular as Brú na Boinne, the draíochtscoil at Newgrange that celebrates its wild magic heritage, but it does boast smaller classes and a difficult entrance exam. Tóraigh is also a beautiful island, surrounded by crashing waves, all kinds of creatures and a palpable connection to the natural world. The school itself is hidden from the small Muggle population of 141. It is a Gaeltacht area, too, meaning that all classes are taught as Gaeilge - through Irish. It is a habit that has stuck with Tadhg, and he can often be heard muttering spells and incantations in his native tongue. This was a place where his disposition was rewarded. It was also the place where he met two people that would change his life forever. His first friend was Amara, an Irish-Ethiopian witch who became the first person to ever convince him to go to a party. She also became his first love. Later, in their fourth year of studies, they were joined by transfer student Lorcan Clarke. The three couldn’t have been more different, but they fit together like the missing pieces of a puzzle they’d been trying to complete for a long time. They were inseparable right up to the point of graduation. Each wix did well in their preferred subjects, and Tadhg in particular was very much looking forward to starting the Healer Training Program at St. Brigid’s. Lorcan was intent on accompanying him, stating that he needed to be closer to the ‘action’ in Dublin. Amara had plans to travel a little before undergoing the Auror Training tests. She and Tadhg ended their relationship, but swore to remain friends. That oath was difficult to keep when Tadhg and Lorcan started dating. Lorcan was everything that Tadhg was not: outgoing, entertaining, brimming with joie de vivre. Tadhg had fought his feelings for his best friend for several years, but with the pair sharing an apartment in Dublin, and with Amara out of sight, out of mind, he found it impossible to continue fighting the pull of Lorcan’s charm. He was drawn into the wizard’s orbit and he could not escape it. For a long time, he didn’t want to, but the cracks inevitably began to show. The pair had a tempestuous relationship, with Lorcan often doing mean or outlandish things in order to provoke a reaction from the normally controlled Tadhg. By the time the Praecantatio Deliquus pandemic hit Ireland in early 2011, their romance seemed to be doomed, with only Tadhg’s determination and Lorcan’s need for drama keeping it together. Lorcan came down with the ‘missing magic’ sickness early, and Tadhg, being an apprentice healer, was uniquely placed to nurse him back to health. Once Lorcan appeared to be on the mend, Tadhg returned to work at St. Brigid’s, which was woefully understaffed due to the crisis. At some point early on in his shift, and unbeknownst to Tadhg, Lorcan had tried to apparate, causing extreme splinching. Tadhg found parts of him on the floor of their bathroom twelve hours later, and after days of extensive work, Lorcan was put into a magically-induced coma. It was hoped that he would heal from his severe injuries given time and the proper treatments, but it was not to be. Six months later, with no improvement, Lorcan’s parents made the decision to cease any and all magical and medical intervention. Lorcan passed less than 24 hours later. Tadhg carried the heavy weight of guilt with him from that moment onward, along with a burning passion and focus to find a cure for [[Praecantatio Deliquus]]. He believed it to be his life’s purpose. Once he’d finished his internship, Tadhg decided to further study and specialise specifically in the Magical Bugs and Diseases branch of his art. He continued to work at St. Brigid’s, though he had an eye toward a move to St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, where some of the brightest magical minds went to study and work. Recently, he accepted a position and has moved, alone, to a brand new city with a burdened mind and a heavy heart. Tadhg is responsible for intake, diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting at St. Mungo’s with symptoms of Magical Bugs & Diseases. In order to reach diagnosis he will have to conduct tests, perhaps engage in some research or magical laboratory work, and then he must deliver a cure (if available), or treatment. ===Career Dates=== 2000 - 2008: Student at Tóraigh, Tory Island, Republic of Ireland. 2008 - 2012: Healing Intern in Healer Training Program, St. Brigid’s Hospital for the Care of Living Things, Co.
