The Falkins are a half-blood family, the name from the muggleborn father Frederick. The whole family is Hufflepuff through and through: outdoorsy, boisterous, family centered and hardworking...except for the awkward middle son, a Ravenclaw. Philo is embarrassed by his family and the Falkins have no clue why Philo doesn't join in. Frederick and Francine fully love each other and usually remember preventive measures but sometimes they forget, which might contribute to the odd gaps between the ages of their children. There is noted Welsh heritage in the family, though several generations removed for patriarch Frederick's family

The family lives in a magical cottage just outside of Shrewsbury, England called Steeple Underfoot, noted for having a roof that looks like a haystack with a chimney that belches (non-harmful) yellow smoke. The property of Steeple Underfoot has ancient muggle repelling charms on it, so on the other side of the fence the muggles see and empty field (even some Squibs have trouble finding it the first time around). The house is built from rather eclectic materials and has a permanent at-war doxie and pixie infestation that nest in the thatch roof.

Being a poorer large family, similarities between the Falkins and the Weasley's have been made numerous times. If you imagine the Weasley's as dark haired, Hufflepuff alumni half-bloods, you have the Falkins.
