Merriman is a tall, big man with thinning white hair and grey eyes. He was the former American Ambassador for the British Ministry of Magic, a job which he both enjoyed and was good at. He had been working as an Ambassador for most of his adult life (having been stationed in both Paraguay, Madagascar and Australia), but has now retired and moved to Hawaii with his wife. He is remembered as a happy and friendly large man, that was always ready to compromise during disputes.
