Ezra is extremely vengeful.  He does not try and make enemies out of others, but when it happens, Ezra is the sort of man who will carry it to the grave.  He takes personal slights very seriously and, just as with his sense of humor, he's not afraid to act on his anger.  While visiting his family in New Orleans the summer after his first year, he learned about voodoo and a few other nasty Cajun magics and he uses them in secret whenever he can to exact revenge on the people who have made themselves his enemy.

Ezra is somewhat aloof because he's strongly aware of his position as the Inkwood heir. However, he's very charming and funny and maintains a decent amount of honesty in his interactions. Ezra can hold a grudge forever and makes sure that his enemies are punished for their missteps.

Physical Description

Ezra is tall and slender. He is solidly built but his body is pretty much straight from his shoulders to his hips, without much definition of his shoulders. This might normally indicate a lack of developed strength but Ezra is strong enough to hold his ground if pressed, despite the fact that he would prefer to fight with his mind.

He has very dark good looks, with pale skin, black hair, and black eyes. He is extremely attractive and he knows how to use it to his advantage. At times, Ezra's face is extremely expressive, clearly showing emotion for everyone to see. However, these are the result of years of practice and only convey exactly what Ezra wishes to convey. It usually has very little to do with what he's feeling on the inside, instead communicating the things that would benefit Ezra the most. On the flip side, Ezra is just as good at being completely unreadable by adopting a blank, arrogant look he learned from his father.

He has one scar that starts on the outside of his left bicep and diagonally downwards across his ribcage and belly. It ends slightly to the right of his belly button. He came by this scar during the catastrophe in New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina when he was swept into a barbed wire fence. It was a pretty severe laceration that had to wait over a week for magical treatment, leaving him with an angry and slightly jagged scar.

Personality Description

All in all, Ezra is the model of a responsible pureblood heir. He's highly intelligent and understands the relative values of networking and discretion. As a result, Ezra is usually quite aloof in his dealings with other students, choosing to neither discourage them nor allow them too close.

Ezra has a wicked and devious sense of humor, that he's not at all afraid to act on. If the situation calls for insulting another person, he does it whether they are friend or foe, just to show them he can. If it calls for some kind of rule-breaking prank, he simply ensures that he won't be caught. Ezra's keen mind means he's very good at not getting caught.

In general, though, Ezra is a very congenial sort, despite coming from a very old and dark family such as the Afambi-Inkwoods. He's friendly towards almost everyone so as not to make enemies too soon out of potential allies. He loves to flirt with the ladies, and make them feel good about themselves but it is all just a tease. He is too responsible an heir to ever let one get too close and he would never risk the unity of his family by accidentally producing an heir out of wedlock.

Finally, as a pureblood, Ezra's opinion on blood purity is extremely important to who he is and how he interacts with people. Ezra is an elitist, in that he believes witches and wizards are truly the elite. He believes that, in this magical world, they were clearly meant to rule. He views Muggles as a Muggle might view an ape, as some sort of vestigial example of their previous evolutionary state. He doesn't hold any contempt for Muggleborns, in fact, he harbors a kind of respect for them because they were able to rise above their born state and acquire the use of magic. On the other hand, Ezra holds a special kind of mild disgust for Squibs because, even though they were born into magic, they somehow didn't possess the strength of spirit to use magic. That being said, Ezra doesn't feel particularly strongly about Muggles in general. He doesn't hate them and is unlikely to be willing to go to war in a bid for their extinction. In his mind, they aren't worth the effort.

History

Ezra's early childhood was pretty standard, for a pureblood. His parents were slightly distant but fair and provided him with everything he needed. His mother was always quietly and calmly affectionate to her first and only child, enough so that Helena and Caddock did not feel the need to over indulge him with his material wants, so he was never particularly spoiled by his parents when he was young. So if he wanted to procure the things he wanted, he had to learn to work for it. The quickest way, he'd learned eventually, was to manipulate people other than his parents into providing him with either the thing he wanted or the means to get the thing he wanted.

When he turned eleven and got his letter for Hogwarts, Caddock took young Ezra to the Inkwood Family vault and explained his heritage to him in depth, for the first time. He related the tale of Negasi Inkwood, who moved to Louisiana and married the oldest daughter of a rich wizarding family who had long held power in the States and his son, who had married a British woman and moved to England right away. The tales of his Cajun heritage really captured young Ezra's imagination.

The purpose of going to the family vault, of course, was to test Ezra's affinity to the wand of Negasi Inkwood, which was notoriously finicky and hadn't accepted another witch or wizard since Negasi's death. It liked Ezra right away, perhaps sensing his affinity for his heritage.

Ezra interest in his Louisiana ancestors only increased when he went to Hogwarts and began to learn a bit about magic. He began to understand the differences between different types of magic and had a profound desire to learn more about the magic of the Inkwoods. He convinced his parents to send him to Louisiana for a few weeks at the end of the summer after his first year with his Nanny.

This was the summer of 2005 and Ezra happened to be studying with a Cajun witch he'd found and paid to mentor him when Hurricane Katrina swept in from the Gulf. His Nanny had wanted to floo back to England because of the storm, but Ezra convinced her to stay, unwilling to cut his studying short because of a storm. He could never have predicted the levee breaches that resulted in the flooding of a good portion of the city.

During this period of time, Ezra was separated from his nanny and forced to fend for himself in the flooded chaos of the city in the aftermath. There he witnessed humanity at its worst as people were left stranded on their rooftops while others looted stores and killed their neighbors. He met up with a group of witches and wizards who were better off for their magical skills and tried to help some of the Muggles they came across. Despite their horrible situation, the muggles still reacted violently with fear.

This was only viewpoint of a massive catastrophe, but Ezra's experience of it set his viewpoints on Muggles very definitely. He formulated the opinion that magic users were capable of using that magic because they were, in some way, better. Not necessarily better people, just better evolved to deal with the ultimately magical quality of the wide world. This includes all magic users, not just those born into it. After all, plenty of pureblood families produced squibs. Ezra holds for them the same contempt he holds for Muggles because they, like Muggles, must be deficient in some way.

The trip highlighted Ezra's strong survival instinct and helped him develop several skills he brought back to Hogwarts with him. The most important of these skills is the voodoo magic he learned from the Cajun witch. Ezra is good a maintaining a believable neutrality but has a nasty temper and can really hold a grudge. Voodoo was something he learned eagerly because the spells and rituals often enabled him to exact an untraceable revenge on his enemies.
