Katy Bevans is a Hufflepuff Graduate (Class of 2013). Although headstrong and stubborn once you know her she exhibits the softer qualities of Hufflepuff House. She is the cousin of Nicholas Bevans.

Personality Description

Katy is young, untried but extremely intelligent and intuitive. She is able to develop strong and accurate insights to people and things by taking note of the patterns of behaviors she witnesses. She understand people, and care very deeply about those who have earned a close and personal relationship with her. Unfortunately, Katy is very shy and quiet. She tends to rely on herself and has very high standards, which often means she has unrealistic expectations and finds it difficult to accept other's weaknesses.

But Katy is usually as genuinely warm as she is complex. She holds a special place in the heart of people she is close to, who are able to see her gifts and depth of caring. Katy is concerned for people's feelings, and tries to be gentle to avoid hurting anyone. She is very sensitive to conflict, and cannot tolerate it very well. Situations which are charged with conflict may drive the normally peaceful Katy into a state of agitation or charged anger. The conflicts that rouse her anger to the highest are those concerning the people closest to her, those with whom she has come to strongly identify.

Because Katy has such strong intuitive capabilities, she trusts their own instincts above all else. This may result in stubborness and the tendency to ignore other people's opinions. She believes that she's right. On the other hand, Katy is a perfectionist who doubts that she is living up to her full potential. She is rarely at complete peace with herself - there's always something else she should be doing to improve herself and the world around her. She believes in constant growth, and doesn't often take time to revel in her accomplishments. She has strong value systems, and needs to live her life in accordance with what she feels is right. In a lot of ways, though, Katy is gentle and easy going. Conversely, she has very high expectations of herself and her friends and she doesn't believe in compromising her ideals.

History

On Katy's first day of school, she met a girl named Bryn. She was beautiful with blonde ringlets and a soft, royal blue dress and white pumps. Katy, in her ratty jeans and threadbare grey t-shirt would never have dreamed of approaching. But when Katy's mother walked away from her, barely containing her tears, and Katy was being teased for being upset, the beautiful Bryn leapt to her defense. From then on they were the fastest of friends. They went everywhere together and did everything side by side. Bryn was vivacious, full of light and energy and Katy simply reveled in it and idolized the girl.

Katy's displays of young, uncontrolled magic occurred whenever she felt the consuming need to protect Bryn from her troubles. She once slammed a door in the face of their school's Assistant Headmaster when he was reprimanding Bryn for something, she did it using on her mind and her anger. The next time, Bryn had gotten into an argument with an older kid in town, he had the nerve to push beautiful Bryn in her beautiful pink day dress and then found himself choking with the maroon school tie around his neck. She did it using only her mind and her anger.

But shortly before Katy's tenth birthday, Bryn's family moved to northern Italy to care for Bryn's ailing grandmother. The loss of her best friend was devastating. With no friends with whom to laugh and play, she withdrew into herself and became quiet and sullen.

Her mood only worsened with every one of her parent's arguments. Stressed and preoccupied on top of her emotional withdrawal, Katy did not only remain friendless, but she actively drove the other kids away. They shunned her and called her names. She stared at them and derided them for their poor schoolwork and low intelligence.

Finally the arguments came to a head. Katy had to watch from the stairs as her father grew angrier and angrier and finally strike her mother. The solid floor beneath his feet turned liquid and he disappeared through it, swallowed up. They eventually found him in the basement, having just slipped through the floorboards but the damage was done in more than one way. Katy's mother filed for divorce and moved across the city with Katy. Shortly thereafter Katy received her letter from Hogwarts and she went away to school.

Unfortunately, Katy found it very difficult to make friends, even with magical children at Hogwarts and has spent the past three in a sort of voluntary isolation. But as she grows older, she yearns for the connection of friendship, even though she is severely out of practice in dealing with people.
