On October 14, 2008, Knox Greyfriar was bitten by an unidentified werewolf. The werewolf had been coerced to the location by Cináed Tawse for purposes to support the Wizarding Blood Alliance. Knox's strong pro-werewolf politics combined with his new post as a Wizengamot Elder made him a target.
Fauna Blake, Sasha Schlagenweit, Vladislaus Dragulia, and Beatrix Dark were also victims of the assault, but none sustained major injuries.
Now, Knox must navigate his new life as a member of the marginalized werewolf community, while the Aurors attempt to put the piece together.
After a brief exchange of letters, Devlin Matthews convinces his father Knox Greyfriar to meet him at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade so he can ask Knox for money so he can have his own flat over the summer. They argue, Knox refuses, and ultimately, Devlin storms out. This is all overheard by Fauna Blake and Beatrix Dark who followed Devlin out of the castle and take an unwilling Sasha Schlagenweit along with.
Vladislaus Dragulia finds the three wayward students and together he and Knox decide to take them back to Hogwarts. It is a full moon, after all.
On the night of the full moon, when Knox Greyfriar and Vladislaus Dragulia are escorting three students back to the Hogwarts castle, a werewolf attacks (set loose by Cináed Tawse)! Students Sasha Schlagenweit and Beatrix Dark escape and Ciarra Belisario and Vane Hendric of the Werewolf Capture Unit swoops in along with Gabrielle Harker at the last minute to subdue the werewolf, but not before Knox suffers a bite. Knox and Fauna then go to St. Mungo's to treat his wound.
"Solaris Maximus!" A pillar of light shone from Knox's wand like the head lamp of a giant steam train. For a moment, everything was white and blinding. Blinking through the light, Knox saw it crashing through the thinnest of the saplings.
"Werewolf!" he bellowed, stumbling backwards. He was able to cast Reducto before the beast was upon him.
Everyone is taken immediately to St. Mungo's Hospital and the healers begin to treat them straight away. Knox Greyfriar and Vladislaus Dragulia have injuries, but Knox's is a bite. Devlin Matthews arrives only to shout at Knox in anger and frustration. Knox insists the entire time that the incident was an accident, despite Tamis Raynor stating Level Two would be treating it as a calculated attack.
Fauna Blakes heads to the lobby to owl Hogwarts and warn them of the werewolf. There she encounters her mentor Tamis Raynor. Tamis checks in with Fauna and then begins to peice together what happened.
Fauna Blake and Sasha Schlagenweit arrange to visit Knox Greyfriar at his home in Kent. He's been home from St. Mungo's for about a week and is puttering about his house. Fauna arrives first and together they fill out the daunting Werewolf Registration documents. When Sasha arrives, Knox tries to convince them both that neither of them had anything to apologize for - that sneaking out had not caused the attack. But things quickly become tense as Sasha recoils against Knox's laissez-faire attitude. They argue and despite consolation from Fauna, Sasha leaves. Fauna and Knox briefly discuss his plans for his first transformation (he has none). Before she departs they make plans to meet again over holiday.
Knox Greyfriar shows up a few days before the next full moon to official register at the Werewolf Registry. He's greeted by Covadonga Gertrudis and Tabitha Williamson who explain all the nicer, friendlier supports available to werewolves in these our modern times. However, the experience is smothering for the independent Knox, who hotly pushes away Covadonga's offer of help.
"It hasn't been my intention to hide my condition," Greyfriar stated on November 26, "Rather, I needed time myself to acclimate to a new way of living. I am a werewolf and still very much myself."Niobe Thursby
On an official call on behalf of the Wizengamot, Elder Greyfriar and Healer Bombay visit the isolated country house of eccentric old Mr. Tilberthwaite. But what they find is a corpse and a crumbling cottage - not only crumbling but carnivorous! The house collapses in on them and they are trapped and injured in the cellar. Night falls. The moon is full.
They awake both bum naked, bleeding and are soon apprehended by Louis Crumb and Esme Mulpepper.
"We searched hours for you two when you didn't show up at the WCU," [Agent Crumb] shouted over the wind. "Got last whereabouts from your office, but this bloody bit of land's so damn enchanted and hexed we couldn't even start looking properly until day break. Doesn't look like either of you made if far...!"Louis Crumb
Bombay and Greyfriar are charged, swiftly convicted and sentenced for negligence and breach of the Code of Werewolf Law. A howling mad Hannah Bombay needed to be dragged out of the courtroom by her reluctant companion lest she make things worse.
However, Greyfriar vows that he'll be able to make things right, prove their innocence and restore their reputations.
"Knox Tremayne Greyfriar and Hannah Elizabeth Bombay, your punishments are thus: You shall both render unto the Ministry of Magic a fine of 700 galleons. You shall both be required to report to the Ministry of Magic's Werewolf Safe Rooms at dawn of the day preceding each full moon and remain within until the sun sets on the night after for the next seven full moons. You shall both be considered under Regulatory Probation during that time and be assigned a counselor who will oversee your rehabilitation. These requirements shall be obeyed strictly under penalty of arrest and detainment."Argyle Canterbury
Both Greyfriar and Healer Bombay, who was acting as a consultant for the Wizengamot at the time, are faced with a fine of 700 galleons and a strict probationary period of 7 months.Niobe Thursby
A somewhat anonymous author critiques the laws against werewolves, citing werewolves back at Hogwarts and the transformation of Hannah Bombay and Knox Greyfriar outdoors.
Tanis Quickwood interviews werewolf expert Maya Irene-Strangely for the Wizarding Wireless Network's political commentary programme The Omen. The topic is regarding recent violence affecting werewolves in Britain. Strangely analyses these trends and advocates for the abolishment of the Werewolf Registry and calls Ministry-controlled Wolfsbane access a racket.
The Ministry must dismantle the Werewolf Registry completely, release Wolfsbane Potion, and provide special social protection of werewolves.Tanis Quickwood
