Crocodile Repopulation
As the American crocodile was slowly becoming an endangered species, there was a plan to balance them back into a proper predator, so that they could balance out the food chain and provide for a healthier habitat. The wizards of Jamaica turned towards breeding methods, with a bit of assistance from Voodoo families.
The result was a crocodile with a ridge pattern and limbs similar to that of an American Croodile, but the physical figure (head, tail, size, weight, and length) of a Nile Crocodile. When they sunbathe their scales dry, rise, and lengthen, taking on the pattern and texture of bark. Once the crocodile is wet again their scales whittle back down their normal size and texture.
Because of their newly acquired traits these breed of American Crocodiles generally go unnoticed by most muggles, and if muggles due notice them, crocodiles (averaging around 20 feet long), will usually eat them. Since they're an antisocial creature, their large carnivorous diet isn't an immediate concern, nonetheless, if they're being pests, Caribbean governments will usually try to feign political responsibility onto Jamaican wizards, to which their usual response amounts to, "We could've used a saltie."[1]
They are a favorite to be illegally shipped Florida and thrown into the wild, but are usually easy to eradicate when they are brought to the public's attention.
