Anthony, or Tony to his friends and family, is a former director of the Knight Bus, now retired. He is father to Cynthia Bombay and Lawrence Musgrave and grandfather to Hannah Bombay.
Childhood
Growing up in St Alban's in a pureblood family, Tony received a very fortunate upbringing. As well as learning to ride a broom he rather enjoyed cycling and looking after his bicycle. It was the start of a lifelong passion to fettle machinery.
When Tony was eight, the Second World War broke out. It lasted throughout his time at Hogwarts, where he was away from much of the worst of it, but the air raids and bombs left a lasting impression on him. He made firm friendships and looked out for wizard and muggle alike, and always went the extra mile. He is a firm believer in volunteering and also in mending and repairing wherever possible.
Tony managed a very good set of OWLs as he put in a lot of effort at Hogwarts. He had thoughts of maybe becoming something to do with spell development or broom manufacture. His talents were in practical subjects, though he was a dab hand at the theory, such as arithmancy and runes. Had he been a muggle he might have enjoyed studying physics and mathematics in greater detail, or engineering. He got on well with classmate and fellow pureblood, Mortimer Gamp.
Spattergroit
Disaster struck halfway through Tony's sixth year, after returning from his Christmas holidays away, he came down with Spattergroit which meant he had to leave Hogwarts immediately due to being contagious. He spent almost a year recovering, due to lingering symptoms, and was faced with restarting his NEWTs while his peers began their seventh year. Having been stuck at home for a year, he was anxious to get out, and two more years at school until he was 19 looked extraordinarily tedious to the 17 year old. Tony elected instead to study fewer NEWTs at Hogwarts for one year, which wasn't his best decision.
Knight Bus
He left Hogwarts a year later, with a weaker set of NEWTs than he had his heart set on, as he couldn't catch up and he was prone to getting ill. He set his aspirations lower, and decided to apply to be a Knight Bus driver. He still had a love of mechanics and machinery, and had always wanted to drive a car. He was accepted and trained up, and worked shifts while continuing to live with his parents in St Alban's. He kept in touch with friends, and became an avid supporter of the Watling Warriors a local quidditch team, attending every match he could.
Marriage and Family
In his mid-twenties, Tony went to renew his Knight Bus driving license with the Department of Magical Transport where he met a pretty part-time clerk called August. They chattered away as she renewed his license and then quite forgot to stop. He asked her out, and in 1957 they married, and she became August Musgrave.
Together, they had two children. First was Cynthia Bombay, a daughter, who took very much after her mother. Tony worked as many shifts on the Knight Bus as he could to make ends meet for them while August was at home. She furthered her interest in beauty charms, cutting hair and other popular treatments for witches. Two years after, their son, Lawrence Musgrave was born. Content with two, Tony and August settled into a happy family life in St Alban's.
As the children grew, Tony was a proud father. He never quite understood his daughter, who tended to empathise more with her mother, both in interests and opinion. As parents you weren't meant to have favourites, but Tony very much enjoyed spending time with Lawrence. Once Cynthia was away at school, father and son were thick as thieves. Tony taught Lawrence everything his own father had - how to ride a broom, a bit of quidditch, how to ride a bike, even how to play muggle football. He bought Lawrence a Watling Warriors scarf and took him along to games once he was old enough and before he went away to Hogwarts. To have him return with a Gryffindor one made Tony only prouder!
Career
Once the children were both at school, Tony began to study NEWTs and other qualifications by a correspondence course, hoping to further his career with the Knight Bus, or apply for a post in the Department of Magical Transport. He began to gain more responsibility with the bus, and eventually in 1981, just as Lawrence was graduating with his NEWTs, Tony was made Director of the Knight Bus.
Grandchildren
In 1985, he became a grandfather for the first time to Hannah Bombay, as Cynthia's daughter.
Retirement
Tony remained with the Knight Bus until 1992, retiring as his sight was failing, possibly linked to his teenage illness. After 11 years of service it was time for new leadership and he found working hard and he could no longer drive the bus either without using magical aids which made it less fun. Although St Mungo's is able to treat it, he still struggles and wears thick glasses.
Second Wizarding War
In the second wizarding war, Tony and August did what they could to help the muggle borns and half bloods pursued. As purebloods, they were safe from much of the persecution. Tony would often claim he'd not seen anything, citing his eyes, when they were hiding muggle borns.
To discover his son, now an auror, was charged with war crimes in July 1998 at the end of the war, broke Tony's heart. He could not believe it. August and Cynthia were quick to ban mentions of Lawrence within the family, and for the sake of the love he had for both wife and daughter, Tony obliged. Despite what Lawrence has done, he hopes he was mislead, framed or somehow not as terrible as claimed, given his upbringing.
Recent Events
Tony is a support of Monty Pepper's flying cars. He is a lifelong friend of the Pepper family, and attended Monty's wedding (Lawrence was a groomsman).
Due to more recent events, he is adamant Lawrence is suffering from a magical illness of the mind, or under imperio. The rest of the family think Tony is delusional.
