After not having seen each other for 3 or 4 years, Kurby ambushes Nate outside Calaveras, demanding answers about why Nate would have been in Grimshaw's on 11 November. Nate admitted to being in the shop, that he'd made a sale, and that Grimshaw's was 'neutral ground'.

Nate and Kurby get trapped in a Ministry elevator. Kurby reveals to Nate that he knows about Nate and Lorelei Hunt having a deal at Grimshaws. Nate threatened to get back at Kurby for all the harassment.

Nate tracks Lorelei Hunt down at the Black Chimaera and demands to know if she told anyone about their meeting at Grimshaw Tailoring. Lorelei has a handy response. Nate apparates away in a hurry, leaving his splinched finger behind.
Gone. He was gone. Leaving only the stench of fear in the air and a streak of blood across her palm. Still warm.
Lorelei stared at her hand, then looked down at her feet.
A single finger seeped blood into the stones.

Kurby confronts Nate Briggs about the splinched finger he received with Nate's photo via owl. Nate tells him that Lorelei Hunt must have sent it. Nate's skeletal finger replacement shoots a curse at Bagnold and they scuffle. Both of them flee, Nate to his neighbor, Aviad, and Bagnold to Aileen.
