During Voldemort's first war, a young Knox Greyfriar was coerced into helping the Death Eaters for a time as a healer. During this time, Knox ended up with 41 wands which were stolen by Death Eaters from those they harmed or killed.
Knox has held onto these wands since then, a shameful mark on his past he has not confronted.
Atticus Roark delivers the message that an anonymous employer is blackmailing Knox Greyfriar. He knows about the wands. Knox must immediately resign at Hogwarts Headmaster, or all will be exposed in the Daily Prophet. Knox negotiates for more time.
Knox meets Judith at the Three Broomsticks, tells her about the wands and blackmail, then asks for her help. She agrees and they make the beginnings of a plan.
Knox and Judith summon Minerva McGonagall who agrees to come. They fill her in on the wands and ultimatum and ask for her help wrangling the governors. They plan for Knox to offer his resignation, but have the Governors reject it. In the meantime, Minerva takes care of the wands and will take them to the museum.
Knox Greyfriar goes before the Board of School Governors, tells them about the wands, and asks them to reject his resignation. They decide to leave the resignation pending while they conduct their own investigation.
Romulus Wilde meets with Barnabas Cuffe (and Henry Eastman and Peter Coffin) at the Wolf and Lamb to ask Cuffe to expose Knox Greyfriar's wand scandal in the Daily Prophet.
The Daily Prophet breaks the news early, citing the tight-mouthed museum and an anonymous source. The article reveals both the MLE and Hogwarts school governors will investigate.
Hogwarts Headmaster and Wizengamot Elder Knox Greyfriar has delivered forty-one wands to the National Museum of Wizarding History (NMWH), a museum source has confirmed. The wands are believed to have belonged to victims of Death Eaters, taken by Death Eaters between the years of 1995 and 1998.Bethany Tigges-Hallow
The Wizengamot have declined to hear charges against Knox Greyfriar in the case of the so-called war wands. Following news that he had returned to the authorities forty-one stolen wands, Greyfriar has faced accusations of conspiring with Death Eaters during the Second War.Niobe Thursby
