Dual Casting, or the dual wielding of two wands at once, is a rare skill. Practitioners are able to channel their magic between both wands for various effects. Such as casting the same spell twice, casting two different spells at once, or improving enchantments by simultaneous casting.

Before one can even begin to properly practice, it first requires finding wands that are ‘agreeable’ to be partnered together. Incompatible wands can worsen the potential for backfired spells, breaking of one or both wands, or harm to the wix attempting to dual cast. Usually, the wand with the strongest bond or most control is suggested for the dominant hand, although some may prefer it when learning to cast with their opposite hand. Particularly impulsive wands, if compatible, can often assist training with dual casting as an early stop-gap, although care should be taken to not become reliant on a lack of control. Studies in wandlore or recommendations from a wandmaker are suggested, although few would suggest attempts at dual casting.

Besides wand compatibility, the biggest hurdle is the sheer amount of practice and relearning of various spell-casting concepts. High caliber wixes that develop this skill will eventually find they can adapt their casting technique and talents to both wands.

The following traits are not required but may possibly help with training in dual casting. Being ambidextrous. Studying Occlumency. Winning allegiance from more than one wand.

Wix from cultures that favor the staff for casting spells also may have an easier time learning to dual cast with staff and wand together.

At Absit Omen

Casey O'Doherty is self taught in dual casting. During a practice session as Hexy in the Room of Requirement, she offered to teach it to Zoe Torret. However, Zoe had yet to bond with her new wand.
