Synodoic Monogram
A Synodoic Monogram refers to an embroidery enchantment process created by Ligeia Canterbury in her 6th year at Hogwarts. It's so named because the changing properties of the embroidery can be tied to certain astrological phases, such as a lunar phase, requiring minimal upkeep or spell activation.
Inspired by a read of "The Scarlet Letter" before the TetraWizard Tournament, Ligeia was going to mark herself as a werewolf supporter in the wake of Headmaster Herschel Reid's overturn of Headmistress Analiza Snark's ban of werewolf students attending Hogwarts. She began sewing them into her uniforms opposite her Prefect's badge. Following the lunar cycle, the monogram turned a deep crimson (and extra hairy) closer to the Full Moon, and darkened closer to the New Moon. She intended to introduce them to SAWS although in the fallout of Zel Trumble's outing as a werewolf (see Zel Trumble and His Troubles) she never properly explained her monograms to her peers during their remaining school days.
Present
After her return in 2014 from her travels abroad, Ligeia revisited the embroidery process on the side during her healer training. She was interested in sharing the process with as many clothiers as possible, asking for no compensation or recognition. Rather, she hoped that the 'monograms' could be adapted to various activist causes.
Letters or emblems can be specially commissioned. Prepared patches are now being created with preset conditions such as color, cycle or additional properties, which only require to be sewn onto an outfit to activate. Ligeia will hand craft new monograms for friends without asking for anything in return.
