Ōoriyashima Clan
An old, purist Wizarding family found primarily in Japan, the Ōoriyashima are an ancient wandmaking family whose wands are some of the very first – and the finest – to be crafted in the region. They are hardly as famous as the Ollivanders outside of Asia, but they are widely regarded as one of the best wandmakers in Japan if not the entire Pacific.
Notable Members
Notable members include Esther Morrell, her mother Shizune, and her grandfather Minato Ōoriyashima, the clan patriarch. Maiko Biladeau-Yukawa and Kohaku Yukawa are distant relatives through their grandmother, Ayame Yukawa.
Ukiyojima
The ancestral estate, Ōoriyashima Castle is located in Ukiyojima, a private Wizarding island situated in northern Japan.
Ukiyomura
There is only town on the island, and that is Ukiyomura (“Ukiyo Town” for gaijin). Initially founded by the Ōoriyashima clan, the clan has since conceded much of its official power to public authority, but as its members continue to inhabit the castle (and retain much of their ancestral properties), they remain a driving force behind town politics. Both townsfolk and government officials look upon them with respect, if not outright deference.
Recent History
Traditionally, Ōoriyashima witches and wizards lived and died on Ukiyojima; the island was their home and territory, and as such, the clan saw it as their sacred duty to protect it and its inhabitants with their presence – particularly from gaijin, or outsiders. To leave was unthinkable, tantamount to shirking one's duty.
However, the patriarch's daughter, Shizune, had other plans. Before anyone was the wiser, she not only left the country, she left the continent entirely. Then she turned her back on the family legacy by marrying a gaijin – John Morrell. Until the birth of their second child, Esther, Shizune was cut off from her family, considered a disgrace in spite of Lipwitch's overwhelming success.
