Douglas Prewett

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Doug is an electrifying wizard. He is full of energy and good cheer, and makes any party significantly more fun with his attitude. In small doses, he is a lovable figure that's good to have around. However, in the long run, Doug is a difficult figure to put up with, as he is not emotionally available and a poor listener. He is extremely fond of cheese, and displays more depth of understanding in this area than any other.

Physical Description

Doug is an older wizard, 187 cm tall with a full head of white hair (formerly brown). He eats a lot, and has some weight on him as a result, but is still nimble and agile enough to run away from whoever he may have gotten in trouble with.

He stands tall, as he did in his early years. His face is elongated and often smiling, as he doesn't take life too heavily.

A snazzy dresser, Doug likes both muggle suits and wizard robes, but always ornate. He has expensive tastes, and will most likely leave little in the way of inheritance for his cousins.

His pockets are always full of various trinkets, memorabilia, and snacks.

Personality Description

Doug is a free spirit. He enjoys the thrill of adventure and the unknown, and given his wealth, has never had any interest in holding down a job.

He is generally open to anything his interlocutor suggests, whether that's a day in listening to quidditch on the wireless (with cheese), or jousting on brooms over a frigid lake.

A consequence of his aversion to commitment, Doug is not good at close relationships. He disappears too often to be available, and is almost allergic to deep conversations, which he will interrupt with a joke or by segueing into recounting one of his ludicrous journeys.

Doug has never been interested in long-term relationships, but he does enjoy a quick fling or a romp in the sheets. He has enjoyed dating across genders. He particularly enjoys dating those in positions of power, such as politicians, teachers, and aurors.

History

Doug was born in 1939, the youngest son of Ignatius Prewett I. He was a troublesome child, thriving on the attention of his family, often by arguing with his siblings or telling tall tales. He was always a bookworm, but gravitated more towards fantasy and adventure stories, rather than anything serious or practical.

Despite guidance from his family (who hoped Doug would follow the Prewett way and join the ranks of the ministry), he did not take his studies seriously. He was a mediocre student, although he did well in transfiguration and the care of magical creatures. Sorted into Gryffindor (for once, following in the family's footsteps), Doug excelled at quidditch as a keeper.

After finishing his final year, Doug was set up with a position at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, but instead decided to go see the world.

Throughout his life, Doug has written freelance at the Daily Prophet, chronicling his adventures. The closest he has come to real work was buying a dairy farm in 1976, located in Rutland. The farm is run by a small (magical) staff, with much input from Doug, and is modestly profitable.

In 1989, in an attempt to set his son up with a legitimate road into respectable society, Ignatius I lobbied to have him awarded the Order of Merlin, 3rd class.

Among the highlights of Doug's achievements include uncovering ancient magical artifacts in the Paris sewer, almost burning down the Sydney Opera House during its construction, and racing along the length of the Great Wall of China on a broom under a Disillusionment Charm.

He's generally stayed just clear of magical law, but is not exactly a friend to Aurors.
