Gregory is smart and ambitious. Relatively sly, but stalwart to his friends, he wants to go into Politics and become Minister of Magic. He still has troubles managing his two lives.
Physical Description
Gregory is of middling height with broad strong shoulders. He has a strong build, though not overly muscled, due to years of fencing. He has shoulder length browny/orange hair Very deep blue eyes and a strong jaw. He occasionally gets blackheads on his nose, usually during the Summer months. Gregory has freckles on his lower arms.
At home he has to dress pristine at all times. So at school he usually wears simple clothes. Tshirt and jeans more often than not. His nose is small, a "button nose," as his mother would say.
Personality Description
Intelligent and ambitious Gregory wants to go all the way. He believes a career in Politics will suit him well, though he is considering a few years as an Auror so he can brag about "Protecting the public." Really he wants power. Both the sort that comes from a wand (hence his love and skill at dueling) and the sort that comes from being a Minister. His family have a long history of "public service," even providing a Prime Minister of Great Britain in the 1800s, so he has been well schooled on how to appeal. He doesn't go around blabbing about his craving for influence. Instead he goes on about his wish "to help people," and to "bring about change."
He is a Muggleborn, but he lies and says his mother is a Witch. The school know the truth, but none of his fellows students are aware, well as far as he knows. Gregory is a smart guy. He excels in his studies, with the exception of Astronomy. (He also took Runes, Arithmancy and Care of Magical Creatures for OWLS.) But he works hard at them, largely because he is scared of his Father. Ask him and he will deny it, but his Dad scares the living daylights out of him. He has always had massive expectations for his son, and he is scared of not living up to them.
Gregory sometimes finds it hard to adjust between the Wizarding and Muggle worlds. When he is visiting his parents he has to be very careful what he says when they have guests, which is always. He is an avid reader. He loves Sherlock Holmes. And has a huge list of books he wants to read.
The classic British stiff upper lip has been forced onto him. He rarely shows his emotions, and would never admit to being upset. The only exception is with his sister Augusta. He dotes on her, and is exceptionally protective. And also admires her. In most things he is outgoing, adventurous and keen. He is always first to put his hand up in class. But he sucks with girls. It is probably due to his emotional block. He doesn't express himself and has never been on a date. Although he'd never admit it, not even to himself, he would like a girlfriend.
He comes across as jovial and kind. Many people think he is their friend, and he is often looked for to give advice. He knows a lot of secrets. He likes knowing other people's secrets, and occasionally lets them out to see what happens. Though not if you are one of his few true friends. He always has their back.
It largely came down to Slytherin and Ravenclaw. In the end his driving ambition, both his own and that which his father has forced on him, meant he was place in Slytherin.
History
Northfort House is a large Stuart mansion in Cumbria, the home of Sir Anthony August Louis Sommerville, 19th Baronet and his wife Lady Antonia Mary Sommerville. 15 years ago Gregory was born, his parents first child. A year latter his sister was born. His parents were Muggles, and had no idea Magic existed. It would remain this way for the next few years.
Gregory had a cherished upbrining. His family were rich and he spent his time running around the corridors of the mansion. At the age of three, in front of his parents, Gregory lifted their dog into the air. Minutes latter a homely Wizard from the ministry arrived and explained everything. When he was older he spent most of his time in their vast library. His father was demanding from a young age.
Like all men in his family he was expected to act like a 19th century gentleman. An archaic notion Gregory always hated. He was taught to dance, to speak French, and that nobles were the best. They attended balls and parties, spending "the Season," in their London residence. Gregory hated all of it. Though he did enjoy spending time on the grounds, and loved to horse ride.
He often rode with his sister. She too hated the expectations of their parents, but she wasn't bothered about telling them where to stick it. They got on amazingly. Always exceptionally close.
They were told about Hogwarts. And they began to prepare when he was 10. With a lot of help from the Ministry they managed to get to Diagon Alley. They met a kindly Wizard family. Gregory began talking to their son, who advised him to lie about being muggleborn. They were very impressed. None more than Gregory, he couldn't wait to get to Hogwarts.
When he finally arrived he fell in love. The feast was amazing, and he was sorted into Slytherin. He enjoyed the lessons, and spent a lot of time in the library. He made a point to learn about Wizard culture and history, as he was posing as a half-blood.
Over the years he has made few friends. But those friends are very very dear to him.
