Hazel Sweeney

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Hazel Sweeney, a Ravenclaw, is a young Irish woman. Her personality is serious and studious, but she also has much love, determination and passion in her heart and it means a lot to her to have a good group of friends about. She worries much more about studies than boys, but maybe one day, one will find his way to her heart. The least two becoming traits about her are her stubbornness and hot tempered outbursts.

Physical Description

Standing at a height of 5'2, Hazel is aware that she may not be as towering as the average 16 year old. She can blame her diminutive Irish mother for that obtained trait. Despite this height difference, she carries herself in a well postured way, often giving the illusion she is a bit taller than she actually is. She weighs about 110 pounds and has always had an extremely consistent weight despite her large, Irish appetite.

From her father, she obtained the dreaded trait of lanky limbs, which at least adds to the illusion of looking taller. Her torso is small, her legs long and her arms are a little longer than average.

As for her skin, it is a pale, ivory tone which is obtained from both her mother and father. The fact that she rather stay inside and study or read only aids this trait of pale looking skin.

Her long face has sharp features that her mother often jokes "could cut glass." With high cheekbones and full lips, she has a pointed chin and small ears, that often look a little elfish. She has a prominent, medium-large sized Irish nose that is rounded at the point. Lastly are her large, hazel eyes from which she got her name. Her parents weren't sure what to name her at first- so they gave it a few days. Then her father pointed out their daughter's eyes. They decided to name her Hazel for that reason.

To match her hazel eyes is long, ginger hair that is usually put up in a bun as she finds it troublesome when it is hanging down, messing with her vision.

Personality Description

Hazel by nature is a very studious and firm young woman, who finds great pleasure in learning new things and meeting new people. She is an observer, who enjoys watching people from the outside rather than being within "the in crowd." However, when her beliefs are being slandered or mocked, she is the first one to step up and defend them. She is passionate about her beliefs and defending her friends.

Though she is slightly too proud to admit it, she often enjoys picking fights with people who irritate her or her friends. She likes to put people in their place. Not in a malicious or cold way, but with hopes to teach people a lesson and to humble those who find joy in embarrassing or hurting others.

She has great stubbornness when it comes to boys and is very immune to sarcasm, as she takes most things literally. Often, she'll take jokes the wrong way due to her scholarly and serious personality. Though that does not mean she doesn't enjoy fun amongst her friends.

She has a hot temper if people know the right buttons to push, but it is a side that is not often seen and most people would probably regret seeing if they triggered it. There is usually a justified reason for her outbursts, but what happens within the outbursts themselves are not always justified.

Since day one, she has been a hard working young lady with all the determination of her father and passion of her mother.

Her voice is soft, yet one of authority, sounding almost all the time as if she knows what she is talking about. For this reason, she is very reassuring to people, but to those she corrects, she is often threatening.

History

Hazel comes from a small, lovely fishing village called Kinsale, which is in County Cork, Ireland. Her parents, Lucy Wyatt, a pureblood witch and Danny Sweeney a hard working muggle, met and instantly fell in love. Lucy fell in love with this man because she wanted something new and not as magical based, finding the life of a muggle so exotic and, ironically so, enchanting.

They moved into a small house together after marriage and within the year, Hazel, their only child was born. She was the world to them and they would take her everywhere. Often, she would go fishing with her father, which was his living and managed to obtain quite a deal of fish. He was curious as to why his 8 year old daughter was so successful at fishing, only to witness, one day, to his horror and fascination, a fish flying right up into his daughter's hand from the water below the docks.

That afternoon, he learned the secret his wife had been keeping from him and he took it with adoration and anticipation. He was pleased to know that there was magic in the family and was open to the strange occurrences that took place as Hazel found her magical abilities.

A few years later, Lucy was slightly disappointed at the arrival of a letter from Hogwarts but knew she had no say. It was up to her daughter if she wanted to take on this new life as a witch. When Hazel had a chance to read over the letter, she was absolutely elated as she felt this would give her a chance to know people that were like her. She had struggled to bond with her mother on a magic level for sometime, but her mother had given up on her magic abilities long ago. So, Hazel knew her last resort was going to a school where she'd meet students and teachers just like her. However, her mother was very dear to her and she nearly missed the deadline for deciding if she would go because she was so concerned about what her mother would say if she accepted the invitation. Though, in the end, with less encouragement from her mother, and more from her father, she made the final decision. With that, Hazel was accepted and eventually sent to her first year at Hogwarts school.

She adapted to the setting quickly, becoming a talented young witch, soaking in the information like a sponge. Her favorite classes to date were potions and history of magic, both classes that she excelled greatly in, often spending extra time with both professors, holding out conversations with them both in order to learn more beyond the classroom setting. She did well almost in every class except Divination as she is more for literal teachings- less indirect and confusing as she considers Divination to be. She tried to give the Divination teacher the benefit of the doubt, but just comes off cold and slightly prudish in that class because she is so used to doing well. Between classes, she go around school, helping people who need tutoring or holding conversations with teachers. When she is not doing that, she'll sit down and do people watching, writing in one of the various journals her father sends up from back home. She LOVES watching Quidditch matches and never misses a game. Sometimes, she'll try and sneak out and watch the practices, characterizing the people from the other team she doesn't know well in her journal- watching the games a perfect chance for writing exercises. Though she wouldn't admit it, she has taken a fancy to one or two Ravenclaw Quidditch players over the years. This year, as the Tetrawizard tournament approaches, she is more than enthralled and can't wait to experience the new events that will be taking place. Deep down, she wishes she had the guts to try out for the tournament, but she knows the guilt she would feel and how often she'd be thinking about her parents if she put herself in such danger. Though she will be a proud supporter of any Hogwarts student who is willing to take up the task.

As Lucy saw her daughter increase more and more as a witch, she grew even more weary. She began to consider leaving, wanting yet again to escape the wizarding life. However, she stayed nonetheless, loving her husband too much to leave. To this day, Lucy and Hazel have a bit of an uneasy relationship. As happy as Hazel is in Hogwarts, she also feels as if she doesn't deserve it since her mother defies her going so much. Hoping to overcome this undeserving feeling, Hazel wishes to become a professor at Hogwarts. She would love nothing more than to become a History of Magic teacher, but if all else fails, she knew she could delve into the teachings of Muggle Studies. After all, as expected, beside History of Magic and Potions, it is one of her strongest classes.
