Kane is a rugged man that loves being outdoors and active. But given his abilities as a child and the loss of his wife, he often spends his time in the arts of Divination. Crystal Balls, Palm and tea leaves reading and dream interpretation. Sometimes it is just to get his mind of his lost while other times its in hopes he will be able to talk to the deceased woman. Kane is a quiet man that unless feeling the need to speak out about something keeps his emotions and opinions to himself or to his journal which reads like letters to his late wife. He does his best to be understanding and thus makes a great sounding board to those that are lost much like himself.
Physical Description
Build/Body Form: Athletically Fit, Average Height/Weight Estimate: 6'2” 170 (mostly muscle) Hair Color/Style: Dark Sandy Brunette/Blonde, short to a military cut Eye Color: Steel blue Skin Color/Complexion: Caucasian to Slight tan during the sunny months. Clear complexion.
First Impression: Kane comes off as a man that is either a snob or a very proud silent man. He is quiet man and usually keeps most of his thoughts to himself, because of this people assume he is snobbish, which is far from who Kane is. Once you get past that outer shell of silence one will learn that he is a man that values the things he has in life, especially life itself.

Kane also has a very distinctive gaze to his eyes, often described as soul piercing or at least attention getting. Because of this he was often told growing up he would make a fine teacher as he would be able to grab the attention of his students with his steel blue gaze.
Personality Description
His personality? Well depends on who you're asking, you see he has been told he is many things. He a snob because of where his ancestors came from, and that he must be a snob since he mostly keep to him self, especially with his emotions and his opinions. Unless it's something he feel hes worth talking or speaking out about he usually keeps his mouth shut. He kind of wishes more people would learn that trait if you ask him. I mean so what if he's reserved at least you know he's honest about things when he does chooses to talk to you or give you his opinion on something. Unlike many others in the world.
Why is he like this? Well besides being brought up to have manners towards others, he has also been taught how to be honest and well to realize that though you might have an opinion on something not everyone wants to hear it. And that sometimes to avoid a fight or a war it's often better just to keep your mouth shut and your thoughts to yourself. So far that has been a rather good advice and it's kept him around and out of fights. Oh don't get me wrong he can get very hot tempered when it comes to certain things. Like abuse of a woman. It makes him sick how some men treat a woman. Makes him right sick it does. But he's not stupid, unless he see a man physically hit or abuse a woman he keeps his head down. Rather like a cougar hunting you know, head down until it's the right time to strike. And when he strikes well he's been known to break a few bones and jaws. Given he for goes the wand and just uses his fists.
Otherwise he's been told he's a bit of an thrill seeker, adventure junkie or even have a death wish. All this is because he enjoys going spelunking (cave exploration) and even rock climbing. He's not even against the idea of maybe bungee jumping. It's not that he doesn't want to die or have a death wish. He just enjoy those things or did before the accident his wife had. Since then it helps him to deal with the guilt he's felt. Yes he blame himself for the coma she was in for so long before she passed away in the night.
Besides his guilt for what happen to his wife, Beatrice, he was very loyal to her. He always made time to see her even if it was for but a few short minutes. She was his world, he still mourn her lost when he's not burying himself in his job as a professor. But enough about his late wife. Yes he even kept his emotions about her locked away from the world. It's none of their or your business, he feels.
History
Kane was born technically at 11 o'clock on August 21st but it seemed that he wasn't born breathing due to the umbilical cord being wrapped around his neck during the delivery. The doctors and nurses fought with death for his life for one hour and well one second. However since he did end up taking his first breath one second after the clock struck midnight his birth certificate reads August 22nd. His parents were glad to see that he lived but well lets just say as he started to grow up he think they might have regretted it just a little bit.
He was always in trouble at school for the first few years he was attending Hogwarts, that was until his father got a hold of him after Kane returned home for summer vacation on his second year. After that little lecture and the summer vacation Kane got taken on to straighten him out at the age of well 12, he returned a better young man, his third year. Kane later ended up becoming friends with the very boy he had gotten into a fight with before. Yes he owes his father and grandfather many thanks for teaching him how to be a better man. If it wasn't for them he doesn't know what he would have done the year he learned that the very man, he had once beaten up was the very young man that caused his sister to be expecting. That's right he has one baby sister and well it's just a good thing she has a husband that accepted the baby as his own. As for his so called friend well he's no longer Kane's friend and last he heard he was living back in New England around the Washington DC area with his wife. A pox to them.
Anyway a year after his two year trip around the world, studying the different ways cultures practice the art of Divination, Kane received a letter telling him that he had been united with a young girl name Beatrice. It seemed that though he and his family were half bloods, they felt it was time he was married off and so arranged a marriage to the girl whose family was a business associate of Kane's father, David. The wedding was well as good as a family rushed wedding could be, and the honeymoon was fun. And their life seemed okay since she was willing to go on Kane's weekend get a ways up to the mountains and out to the caves that were near by. Sadly everything went to hell the day the 'accident' happen. Kane has gone over it a million times in his head and he just doesn't understand what could have gone wrong. The line was secure, the clips and hooks were all strongly secure. But she fell and Kane was sure he had lost her. Bless Merlin's beard, she was only put into a coma. After that day Kane had hell with the family, seemed like every month every year they kept trying to get Kane to divorce her and get remarried with another woman. Kane kept telling them no, believing she would come back to him. Hell Kane even prayed for it.
Regrettably she did not returned to Kane. And Kane ended up mourning her death for another three years, traveling the world seeking out those that were in the very field he was studying to become a teacher in, Divination. He ended up writing a few articles for the wizardry world magazines and even a little article for the Daily Prophet over his views about the art of Divination. One such article ended up causing a book company in the US coming to Kane with the offer to write a book to explain the difference between the real divination that cultures used and the fake stuff that people used to steal and cheat the simple minded people out of their money. While it wasn't as popular as say a fiction story or some magic world tale, it did make the top twenty in non-fiction works, for about a week anyway.
Finally Kane began to settle down from his life of travel and took to being a private tutor for those families that would pay him to teach their children at home during the vacations from Hogwarts. It was a living that kept Kane in his little apartment flat in London. Until this year when the Ministry contacted him about replacing the previous Divination Professor at Hogwarts. Kane was excited and yet a bit sadden to return to the very school he had attended during his years of 11 through 17 as a Hufflepuff. For the school held both good joyous memories as well as sad ones. After all he had attended the school with his late wife, who had been two years his junior. He was also nervous given while he had done private teaching he would now be in charge of the young mold-able minds of quite a large number of students.
Kane is a private tutor for a few of the wealthy wizard families that wanted to continue their children's education during times of break from the school itself.
Kane take a more hands on approach to the subject. Example when it comes to things like say Dream Interpretation. Kane use a pensive to show a dream someone (mainly his own) has had to point out the key things people often dream about and then explain why a person might dream of that symbol or sign. Kane will also have a student recount a recent dream they had and ask them why they think they might have had that kind of dream. Showing them how to look for certain key notes in their dreams that would explain to them why they might be dreaming of falling or even flying.
He feels that a student will be able to learn a subject they are taking if they not only get lectures about the topic but also if they end up practicing what they have read or heard about. After all that's how he learned.
While Kane had never been born with a gifts of say a seer or other things, he had a high level of skill or knack for the field. Which of course only helped to fuel his interests with the art. He would often practice the tea leaves reading on his mother when he was at his parents and at one point childhood home. He would also do other kinds of reading, and dream interpretation for not just members of his family, but the family friends and his own friends. Often keeping a journal with his views and beliefs on the area of study. Later on these notes became a part of articles and even a book that was published in the US and sometimes found in small bookstores around London.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Kane traveled with a small group of people (three others) to learn about the other ways people practice things in divination like palm reading, crystal ball reading and even more interesting things like bone or bead reading. He rather took a bit of a shine towards the bead/stone reading and even the dream interpretation aspect of Divination. Upon returning from this trip, and later his honeymoon, Kane became a private tutor for wealthy wizard families, and even one muggle family that found the art of palm reading fascinating, to provide for himself and at the time his wife.
