Lycanthrophy Risk Evaluation

The Lycanthrophy Risk Evaluation, otherwise known as the LRE, is used by the Werewolf Capture Unit of the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in the Ministry. Its purpose is to evaluate whether a wizard or witch is infected with the lycanthropic disease. If the person under suspicion fails the evaluation, they must spend the next full moon under supervision in a holding cell at the Ministry. Identifying Risk of Lycanthrophy

• It is every witch or wizard's duty to notify the RCMC if you suspect an individual might be afflicted with lycanthropy, and/or is living as a rogue werewolf. A list of suspicious activity must be sent to the RCMC as soon as a threat is identified. Don't delay! Send your suspicions to the RCMC today.
• The RCMC will look into the matter immediately.
• If the RCMC finds reason to approach the suspected individual, the individual will be contacted and required to speak with a Ministry Official and complete the LRE.
• If the suspected individual is not cooperative or refuses to complete the LRE, he or she will be labeled a Lycanthropic Threat and placed under strict Ministry supervision.

LRE Procedure

The Ministry Official assigned to the Risk Evaluation may contact the suspected individual without warning and at any time to conduct questioning. If the individual is underage or staying at school, a parent/guardian or Hogwarts authority figure may be present for the evaluation. The initial questions are as follows:

• The individual will be informed that they are under suspicion:

"Fauna Blake, you are formally suspected of bein' infected with lycanthropy," he said sourly. "Do you deny the accusation?"

• If the answer is yes, the questioning continues. There is a set of spoken questions:

1. "Have you, to-the-best-of-your-knowledge, come into contact with a known werewolf since the last full moon?"
2. "Have you recently come into contact with any animals that were possibly of the canine persuasion?" If yes, the suspect is asked to identify the creature using a dichotomous key.

• If the responses to the spoken questions are unsatisfactory, the suspect is required to complete a written form and to use a quill that is enchanted with a Truth charm. The charmed quill highlights dishonest answers in red ink.

Written Questionnaire

1. Please identify your last seven meals that contained a meat or meat by-product, taking specific note of the inner temperature to which each was cooked.
2. Describe your normal shaving routine. Has the frequency of hair growth been changed or altered in any way over the past lunar cycle? (Yes/No.) If yes, explain.
3. Have you recently suffered from any injuries, bites, or scratches?
4. Describe the nature of your last hospital or health visits.
5. Are you allergic to silver? Do you have any burns or scars on your skin?
6. Over the past month, have you experienced any changes in mood or demeanor, or lost your temper more often than usual?
7. Have you recently experienced the irrepressible urge to bite, devour, lunge at, or hit a foe?
8. Has your body undergone any recent physical changes?
9. Are there times during the month where you feel especially fatigued or wiped out?
10. How would you describe your resistance to pain? On a scale of 1 to 10.
11. How would you describe your reaction time? On a scale of 1 to 10.
12. How would you describe your physical strength? On a scale of 1 to 10.
13. Please describe the strength of your five senses: Touch, sight, taste, smell, and hearing.
14. Please describe your flight or flight response. Do you have a tendency to become especially panicked, nervous, anxious, or angry during tense situations?
15. How would you rate your current stress level on a scale of 1 to 10?
16. Do you regularly spend time with anyone afflicted with lycanthropy? If so, describe your relationship with each lycanthropic individual.
17. Have you ever, to your knowledge, exchanged saliva with a lycanthropic individual?
18. If you have ever been attacked or witnessed an attack by a werewolf, describe the attack here.
19. If you have ever witnessed a werewolf under the influence of wolfsbane, describe the experience here.

Outcome of LRE

If the suspect passes evaluation, the witch or wizard's evaluation will be stored in the RCMC records and his or her name removed from the Possible Threat list.

If the suspect fails evaluation, the witch or wizard must spend the next full moon under supervision at the Ministry. If the suspect fails to do this, he or she will be listed as a Rogue Werewolf threat and be treated as such.
