Monster Book of Monsters: Second Edition

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Once removed from the shelves of Flourish and Blotts for cannibalistic tendencies, the Monster Book of Monsters have once again hit shelves, with new content, a new cover, and a whole new attitude. And this round, book owners have learned their lesson and keep them locked in goblin steel-reinforced deposit-book-boxes on a wall in the back of their stores.

The Books

This time around the previous author of the books, Edwardus Lima, was not involved int the making of these books as much as his daughter, Mina Lima, was. She redesigned, re-wrote, and re-crafted the books to be specifically utilized for a school setting.

Rather than to bother with buying newer and newer editions of books, the second edition of Monster Book of Monsters grows and adapts through various stages. The color, skin texture, and educational contents of the books change color as a student progresses through their years as a student in a magical creatures course, in Europe.

The books are still soothed into submission by rubbing or massaging their spines. They also exhibit a fantastic resistance to magic that was originally intended for protecting the books from normal wear, tear, and magic, but ended up making the books nearly impossible to directly affect with spells.

The Stages

Version 2.1

Blue and Fuzzy and teething, this book is not much different than the original Monster Book of Monsters except for its color and more adolescent appearance. It is prone to misbehaving, and is the quickest of all the versions, should its owner be unwise enough to let in run loose.

Intended for 3rd years.

Version 2.2

Green and leathery. It's skin is similar to the texture and weight of a Komodo Dragon's and has pronged edges. It's much slower than the first version, but is much more skilled at hiding.

Intended for 4th years.

Version 2.3

Yellow and horned. The skin texture of this version is slicker and smoother than its predecessor, and has horns around its eyes and edges as well as a nice full set of adult teeth. This version is praised for how well it can withstand extremely humid areas without any of the text being ruined.

Intended for 5th years.

Version 2.4

Red and scaley. This version gets grumpy when held the wrong way, and its edges are less pointy than its predecessors. However, it is very playful and still has horns.

Intended for 6th years.

Version 2.5

Dark Indigo with porcupine tendrils around the edges. If picked up by its edges or held improperly this version will either bite or stick its owner with its needles. The book still also has scales and horns. This book also has grown an extra row of teeth, by the time it goes through its second semester of schooling. Despite its appearance, it is the most sociable of the books, but it also has the biggest attitude.

Intended for 7th years.
