Cinead Tawse is at it again, leveraging his Direwolves to terrorize the magical and muggle public and disrupt the Ministry of Magic. On 11 December 2011, he orchestrated an ambush at the London Zoo and things have begun to spiral out of control.
Savvina is walking her dog Skýlos and meets a childhood friend Aviad Cohen. They make plans to meet but it's all a cover for Aviad's plans to kidnap Savvina for Cinead Tawse.
Figaro intercepts a discarded tip to the Daily Prophet regarding the recent uptick in Runespoors, and recruits Moira for an ill-fated London adventure. They search the bank of the Thames and stake out Madam Tussauds Wax Museum. They follow a shadowy figure into Regents park where they narrowly escape a werewolf attack.
Moira insists on reporting the werewolf by Patronus to Kurby Bagnold
Kurby Bagnold, Fauna Blake, Charlie Harris, Fauna Blake, and Tessa Fenneken respond to Moira McBoid's report of a werewolf in Regents Park. When they arrive, they are met apparently by chance by Lazarus Blackburn. Together they investigate the London Zoo where they are ambushed by Cinead Tawse and Aviad Cohen, who have loosed a werewolf and a Direwolf.
The result of the night is four muggle security guards dead, Tawse and Cohen escaped, and the Ministry agents aware of Tawse's grand return. The entire ambush was just a test for Tawse, to gauge Ministry's response time and intervention strategy.
Figaro wakes up in the McBoid cottage - Moira has already left but he's treated to ribbing and questions (and breakfast) from Moira's uncle Duncan McBoid.
The Ministry of Magic did an expert job not only containing the London zoo attack from muggles, but also the magical press. Only a scant few details make it into the paper.
According to a close-mouthed internal source inside the Werewolf Wing there may or may not have been at least one werewolf but no more than two werewolves reported in the vicinity of the London zoo or possibly within the London zoo. The source is neither confirming or denying that the werewolf, whom the source will only confirm is hypothetical, was collected by the Werewolf Capture Unit, but that if it were or weren't that werewolf should it exist is being looked after according to protocol.Niobe Thursby
Kurby Bagnold owls Moira McBoid to order her to report to the Ministry of Magic in regards to her werewolf report. A few days later, Kurby writes again with a thank-you and more instructions.
Stacy Li updates Kurby Bagnold on the information retrieved from the werewolf captured from the Cold Moon attack, Savvina Katopodis. She has little to reveal, other than the name Knox Greyfriar whom she said she got Wolfsbane Potion from. Kurby asks Stacy to redact it from the report.
She didn’t know how she got to the park. Didn’t remember anything leading up to her transformation. Claimed she didn’t know Tawse. Couldn’t remember if she had taken a full run of Wolfsbane beforehand.Stacey Li
Moira McBoid is questioned by Kurby Bagnold regarding the details of the night she and Figaro were attacked by a werewolf. She reveals Figaro was with her, how she feels the werewolf attack was happenstance, and that their goal was to investigate Runespoors. Kurby suspects Figaro and Moira may have been specifically targeted because of the Sellaphix's connection to Tawse via the Runespoor explosion a few years ago.
Zora Roh checks in on Fauna Blake to make sure she's not too shaken from the ambush at the zoo. There's nothing snuggly about the encounter, but Roh makes it known that she's got Fauna's back and that it's natural to be unsettled.
Kurby Bagnold arrives at Figaro's flat to get the full story of his involvement in the Cold Moon ambush. It does not go well. Kurby tries to impress on Figaro the gravity of what has happened and Figaro's role in it, but Figaro is pre-occupied that Moira's promise to keep his name out of it was broken. It becomes clear Figaro and Moira were in the park by happenstance, despite Figaro recounting how he once met Cinead Tawse.
Kurby orders Figaro not to speak of any of this.
Figaro, drunk and angry, shows up at Moira McBoid's place unannounced to shout at her about breaking her promise not to tell anyone he was at Regents Park the night of the werewolf attack.
Kurby Bagnold asks Jonas Trevelyan if the Aurors would look into Figaro and Moira's report of the shadowy figure at Madam Tussaud's, stowing something sneaky in the wall. Kurby is scant on details, hoping to hide Figaro and Moira's identity.
Kurby and Duncan catch up during their camping trip where Duncan confides that his cousin, Iona, was killed by Lorelei Hunt and turned into a pentral. Bagnold recognizes the Hunt name from the ledger he found at Grimshaw's tailor shop.
There had been talk of something happening at a lake house somewhere around Keswick earlier in the summer, but he hadn't heard yet about the pentrals changing appearances or being used as disguises. Kurby swallowed, glancing down, and took another sip of beer; the can was nearly empty again, in nearly record time for the evening. He'd called in a lot of favors with Level Two the previous week, but once his count reset, it seemed like he'd need to try to find more information on Hunt and her pentrals.
"I'm sorry, mate," he said after a beat, looking back at Duncan. "What's goin' to happen to your cousin?"Kurby Bagnold
Kurby Bagnold and Duncan McBoid hang out for a bit of beer and camping. A topic of conversation involves Duncan's niece Moira's involvement with the London Zoo ambush, and Figaro's connection to the Runespoor thing. In particular why the two delayed reporting by 30 minutes.
Kurby Bagnold finds out his old mentor Bruce Ballentyne is his new boss. The two have it out, and Kurby makes two needs known: he needs more Auror support from Level Two, and to get clearance to hire Lazarus Blackburn as a consultant. She informs him that she's already got them Athena Marrowbone to do field healing. Kurby then fully briefs Bruce on the Direwolves thus far.
Kurby Bagnold questions Savvina Katopodis himself in the enchanted holding cell. Her last recollection was of being in Regents Park with her dog, and that Knox Greyfriar provided her with Wolfsbane Potion. Kurby warns her of the risk in accusing a man like Greyfriar and she picks up on the implication and withdraws the statement. She asks Kurby to find her dog.
"My name is Kurby Bagnold," he informed her quietly. "You were captured and detained durin' the last full moon after you murdered three people and assaulted two others. You'll have access to a lawyer once you're transferred to Level Two and they file criminal charges. First, though, I'd like to find out more about what you do remember."Kurby Bagnold
On the pretense of a routine inspection of the cottage Knox Greyfriar uses for full moons, Kurby Bagnold confronts Knox with a picture of Savvina Katopodis who's identified Knox as the man who provided her with Wolfsbane Potion outside the bounds of the law.
Kurby also warns Knox of Cinead Tawse's attack on the full moon, and the risks ahead.
Figaro and Moira have it out in the middle of the new years party, Figaro still sore Moira told Kurby about that night at the zoo. Fauna, there to mediate is pulled into the middle of it. Moira reveals to Figaro Fauna was at the zoo. Figaro leaves and Moira and Fauna find some sort of middle ground.
Anton Schäfer and Figaro Sellaphix respond to Fauna's vague texts of being ill and wretched by bringing over food and good company. Anton, ever cheerful, Figaro hungover, and Fauna feeling like crap. Figaro ends up having to explain werewolves to Anton (among other things.) when the Cold Moon attacks become a skirting topic of conversation.
On her day off, still afflicted by magical measles, Fauna spies a dog that looks strangely like the one Savvina Katopodis described as her companion Skýlos. Cinaed Tawse , in disguise, has been caring for him and he and his son Robin Adani are enjoying a walk in the park.
