Plot:It Came from Outer Space
The Department of Mysteries has discovered, via the Space Chamber, an extraterrestrial object headed in earth's direction from outside of our solar system. Rough calculations will predict a meteorite 'landing' somewhere in Scotland, in December 2011. The object inside the meteorite is a pure metallic sphere that causes fears to physically manifest within a certain radius.
Note: This plot is an homage to Michael Crichton's novel, Sphere.
How to Get Involved
Who?
Ministry staff and anyone who could be affected by the Sphere when it is transported from the landing site to the Ministry. As the Sphere isn't affected by magic, it will be manually transported.

It was quite close at hand. An oblong asteroid streaking through space like a shooting star in slow motion. Its white, fiery tale blazed between the two of them. Weird looking thing, they were usually round.Yavin Morgenthau
Now, the tiny blue dot seemed to race towards them, growing bigger and bigger until it hung in the blackness before them, a little bigger than a quaffle. The familiar shape of its land masses drifted by as it rotated; they were all reversed from their usual position, as if the entire planet had been flipped upside down. The gray lines seemed to end somewhere near the bottom of the green mass that resembled an upside-down Britain -- still flickering, which meant there was still some uncertainty, but more accordant than they had been even a few days prior. "Looks like it, doesn't it?" Kaia asked at last, arching her eyebrows at Carstairs. She nodded to the blue-and-green planet hanging before them, a smile tugging at her lips. "Quite the coincidence, eh? That asteroid has the whole universe in front of it, and it lands right here."Kaia Arahanga
And then, with a start, he clapped Rosier's arm. "Sparks! Call them back in!" he gestured along the line of Unspeakables onshore and each of them followed the order instantly. Bright red sparks light up the air, a signal to all Ministry folk involved that they were aborting the mission. "Two of you," Yavin pointed at a pair of Unspeakables. "Go in. Slowly. Help anyone who, ah, who needs help." They were ending before they had even begun.Yavin Morgenthau

Did you see the shooting star last night? Multiple readers reported the rare and pretty event of a brilliant sparkly streak of light quickly flying over London. "This is a good omen for Sagittarius who can consider the green color symbolic of growth and renewal," said staff astrologer Abe Castor-on-Lune.Abe Castor-on-Lune
"And we have, um, perfected an effective decontamination protocol post-interaction." ...Yavin decided not to tell the Minister that their 'protocol' involved being submerged in an odd mixture of liquids that included freshly squeezed orange juice and mammalian spinal fluid. He sat forward slightly as he answered the other questions, adjusting his spectacles.Yavin Morgenthau
