Roman Sore

A Roman Sore is a common wizarding 'virus' similar to Muggle Herpes (HSV-1). It manifests in extremely painful mouth and throat sores which, in extreme cases, may rupture and lead to significant full body infection. Roman Sores are passed through the exchange of bodily fluids.
The underlying cause of a Roman Sore never quite leaves the bloodstream: it can re-emerge every few months or years or even decades, especially when an individual is stressed. A healing Everlasting Elixir may be brewed to prevent the symptoms from reoccurring for those to whom the sores are significantly disruptive or dangerous.
