A counterattack is led by Jason MacDonell, Head of the Auror Office, and involves most Aurors of the day. The fortress is retaken, with ten Aurors killed, as well as several Death Eaters, including Antonin Dolohov and Augustus Rookwood. Badly injured in the battle, MacDonell retires and is succeeded by Tamis Raynor.
