Casey has been furthering his reputation as a professional duelist, adapting to a Gregorovitch-made wand won from a foreign competitor. He’s a Spellcasting Apprentice at Knareswick Phrontistery during recovery and the off season. He and Alvis Norling co-founded a start up company, Phaëthon Artifice as they refine the Ravenclaw prodigy’s inventions. Casey is also looking into new investment opportunities and is a shrewd gambler. Somewhat milder in personality compared to his Hogwarts days, Casey has aimed to distance himself from his family’s reputation as much as possible. He rarely invites people back to his address, however, and sometimes makes strange disappearances…

1st to 3rd Year
Casey's best and worst early school memories happened on the day he boarded the Hogwarts express for the first time.

The best was when his father gave him the ancestral wand for use at school, a privilege Casey had received that Martin did not. The worst was later on the train, when Zoe Torret met him in a compartment. The daughter of a healer, any sympathies between them were shattered by the appearance of their respective house elves, Dingy and Lily. Their arguments over elf welfare left them rivals for most of their schooling.

Casey squashed the Sorting Hat back on the stool when it initially suggested he be sorted to Gryffindor. Although appearing as small, easy pickings, Casey could immediately impress many professors in wand based subjects for quickly 'learning' the 1st year spells and even those a grade or two ahead. Yet his allergies held him back in Potions and Herbology. Flying was also a sore spot for Casey, and the teasing from one boy in class made him see red. And it was red hair that Casey wore, in a borrowed girl's uniform, to lure the tormentor unawares to the Trophy Room and hex him into a pulp (on account of the vegetable based transfigurations). Thus 'Hexy' made her first appearance at Hogwarts.

Casey's showboating got the better of him. Over his 1st and 2nd year, while he was impressive with spells he didn't make friends, snidly calling out classmates and challenging older students that he already new spells from their subjects. He kept trying to improve his flying to join the Quidditch team yet he was unlikely to ever be fielded. Towards the end of his 3rd year, he made an appeal to Prof Ignan Storm to lean Occlumency. Storm brushed off most of Casey's reasoning but said he would consider it for the next year.

Third year saw Casey as his worst as the little prick getting up in people's business, earning the ire of most of the year and above. Occasionally, words from other Slytherins would crack through his defenses, like Vulpes Connor or Veronica Ward. Casey also came across Alvis Norling interrupting Dingy's assigned task in the Trophy Room, as both students had an interest in the runic defenses on the armor. It was from this meeting that Casey recognized Alvis had a talent for Legilimency yet was unaware of it. Casey and Vulpes were also on site to protect Noriko Wakahisa and Pax Wintergreen from Morvin Sharp when Slytherin's pending house cup victory brought about a duel.

Partway through his 3rd year finals, Casey is forced to give up the family want and use his father's, which irritates him for using a 'withered' wand. Once the ancestral wand is back, Casey Trolls himself out of herbology by using magic around a highly aggressive plant, earning him expulsion from the course by Prof Ishane Blair and the loss of 50 house points, costing Slytherin the cup. Licking his wounds on the train, Vulpes eventually gets Casey to open up how he's never had anyone actually care for him, as he hates any perceived pity and routine care from healers. Except for his mother, bedsick at home. Once Casey realizes his mother has it worse off than him, he vows to do better as a son.

Summer brings plenty of complications, such as Casey realizing that without the Amulet, his body has grown more feminine. He has to pull off a desperate maneuver to get his mother admitted to St. Mungo's without attracting the family's attention. Let alone, as a muggle, she needs a magical injury to be admitted. He's in correspondence with Alivs off in Egypt and also learns memory extraction for use with a pensieve. And there was the time he tried to stretch himself taller with magic. The family is also commissioned by necromancer Ventus Shang for several Hands of Glory, and Casey fudges the order to get one for himself.

Returning to St. Mungo's to check on his mother's recovery (the Welcome Witch has come to dread his arrivals), Casey is present during the WBA attack on the hospital, putting his Hand of Glory and crude shield made by Alvis's research to use in the fray. His last little summer acquirement is finding an Invisible Book of Invisibilty at Flourish and Blotts, while also seeing Wren Spicer try to reinvent herself.

4th to 7th Year
Casey must serve out remedial Herbology in order to keep his Occlumency lessons. He and Alvis catch up as Casey comes upon a Runes demonstration by Prof Aileen Reid and visiting Durmstrang Prof Ylva Maras. Things take a turn for the awkward with Alvis' lack of personal space and Casey not liking intimacy. New professors certainly make a splash with Leopold Sandusky's wand confiscations in Transfiguration, and the bizarre lessons and detentions from Charms Prof Nightingale Kesali. And then there was the time Rubeus Hagrid hung in him a tree when Casey didn't concede to the point of a Creatures lesson. Casey, Alvis, Zoe and Ambrose Pepper keep finding themselves at odds, to say nothing of other students. By October Casey gets his long awaited Invisiblity cloak and pranks Zoe on her way to the Halloween ball by pretending to be Peeves the Poltergeist. Only to be intimated by the effects she had planned for her dragon costume.

Casey arranged for his mother to recover in a cottage in Hogsmeade, yet tries to avoid notice when his Head of House, Landis Morgan suggests Casey is too reliant on Dingy (it didn't help Casey's takeway from the meeting that Landis was temporarily a woman due to some sort of hag encounter). During Occlumency, Casey finds his "double thoughts" between his male and female psyche provides an edge to the lessons. A panic of Dragon Pox also proves to be too much for Casey, nearly holding up the proceedings being uncomfortable with removing his shirt, and it takes Xiomara Hooch to talk him through it. To say nothing of the strangeness of the Body Swap of Nov 6th 2009, as the Casey/Hexy sides of his brain are split among two different students (Alvis Norling and Heliotrope LeJean) and unable to recall each other during the enchantment.

Casey's tumultuous partnership with Alvis up until that point reaches a head when Casey finds himself privy to Norling's Legilimens talent and that Norling's ancestors made his Animus Amulet. Casey also forces the issue of trying to avoid another loss of the ancestral wand which gets both Morgan and Sandusky involved, although this time his father arrives to say Casey will need to be paired with a new wand. Escorted to Ollivanders by Morgan, it takes dozens of wands until an unexpectly eager Pear and Phoenix feather leaps out of its box and demands spells from Casey, seemingly attuned to his Hexy persona. Wand may be gained but Casey loses his Amulet in the lake after the brilliant idea of trying to fly in stormy weather. He's saved by Alvis but both are quite injured. The ordeal does led to Casey casting a Patronus for the first time to attempt to communicate with it, only he has to settle for red sparks so Alvis can be rescued while Casey slips away under his Invisibility Cloak.

He now has to pass for male with some body altering undergarments, making him feel like he's losing parts of his core identity. A truce is signed with Zoe to keep them from further arguing with each other. Recurring nightmares and disassociation of self aren't helping him avoid attention in classes nor keeping Alvis from finding out too much. His first few games making the Slytherin team aren't liked as he's substituting for stronger players, although there was the memorable incident where Demitria Strelnikov lost control of her Veela charm during a match. Although Casey's female psyche could resist it with Occlumency, he's compelled to 'get the quaffle through the hoops' and his impulsive pear wand shows up and adds to the Veela charm chaos by use of Gemino curse into a storm of quaffles, rendering the match inconclusive. Casey also has a very climatic DADA winter final against Peeves the Poltergeist, who doesn't take kindly to his deception back on Halloween.

During the easter holiday, Casey visits the Norling family but has ulterior motives in trying to find out more about the Amulet. He's caught by Alvis using the Hand of Glory, and Casey ultimately has to reveal his intersex when Alvis finds the original records. Alvis shows quite the compassion and the two learn that the alchemical creation of the amulets always creates an Animus/Anima pair. Indeed, Casey's health is worsened from having worn an unpaired Animus amulet for so long.

Later, another DADA lesson sees the 4th years pitched from a boat into the lake. Casey has perfected bubble head charms thanks to his allergies and even retrieves Juni Zamperia's wand but he can't actually swim. Once Alvis and others rescue him he's catatonic from the cold and Alvis, in a fury, launches a full Legilimens attack against Prof Storm.

Come 5th year, Casey is seemingly more comfortable in his skin and appearances from 'Hexy' have been infrequent. He still causes a Herbology disruption but thankfully no destruction or expulsion this time. Resuming Occluemency lessons, Prof Storm tempts Casey with the offer of learning Legilimency but only if Storm would be invited into Casey's mind without his usual barriers. And it appears Casey made a very poor decision...

Throughout the fifth year, Casey's magic and Occlumency have seemingly halted as his mind is at war with itself. A series of wand thefts occur, missing for a day or two, or half the stock of lost wands from the Caretaker's office at any given time. Relatedly, Casey exhibits borrowed personality traits from the wands he's co-opting.

Notable Possessions
(read on Hexy's page)

Magical Potential & Skills
Casey exhibits tremendous magical potential, although not quite to the level of noted wix like Dumbledore. This potential is held in check by several health issues growing up and Casey’s deceptive nature despite all the showboating. Some of this potential is quite raw, as Casey hasn’t the opportunity (or patience) to fully hone certain craft. Regardless of identifying as male, female or any false alias, the following are all within Casey’s capabilities. However, some are only publicly used with certain personae.

Dueling - From once believing ‘Magic is Might,’ to clandestine uses to now a professional career, dueling is the culmination of Casey’s skill with spell casting courses. It was in Defense where Casey most exercised his extensive repertoire. Being the archetypal glass canon, Casey’s output is checked by taking hits hard, so the usual opening gambit is to overwhelm foes so as to not have the chance of being hit. Casey is versed in all Seven shield spell families but specializes in Protego, Declino and Obex.

:Casey is quite controlled, able to push subtle effects on dueling, such as curving trajectories, delayed impact or nonverbal casting while feinting with the wrong spoken spell. Yet also rather emotive and playful depending on circumstance. Casey is self trained with Dual Casting; there are no official formats for it, however, and Felinae is sometimes seen dual casting. Casey has also improved using invisibility spells outside of his cloak after finding a rare copy of the Invisible Book of Invisibility.

Fire - Casey’s first outbreak of magic was tied setting his former girl clothes ablaze after forced reconditioning. Since then other fire starting incidents have been rare but often tied to Casey’s anger. While flame manipulating spells are within his wheelhouse, on the inverse Casey is also quite good with flame freezing charms in a crisis.

Wandless Magic - there are a few effects Casey has gained wandless. His signature trick with his male identity is conjuring money with a snap of his fingers; actually summoning coins from his coffers from early practice with offhand summoning. Casey can also perform a few rudimentary charms and jinxes, along with certain magical activations, within proper emotional control.

Mental Magic - Casey is quite adept with Mind Magic. Navigating a forced change of identities gave him an edge once he began studying Occlumency under Prof Ignan Storm. Casey took to the skill in an accelerated fashion, developing protective divisions between two personalities, although it took a few years to quell dysphoric mental strife. Casey’s study of Legilimency was more convoluted. Originally wanting to target specific memories, he instead used Legilimency to connect to the mind of an acromantula. Eventually he shifted from targeting specific memories to subtle, wandless gleaning of emotions or surface memories much like his friend Alvis Norling’s talent.

:Casey became versed with Pensive use alongside initial Occlumency training, both extracting and modifying memories. Most notably this was to shore up lacking memories in Hexy’s “cover story” although Casey was once cavalier about modifying the memories of others.

Wand lore - Casey has some recognition of wand personalities given dual casting training, although this wasn’t developed until 4th year. For starters, Casey quickly bonded with the ancestral family wand, considering it superior to all others. He was loath to borrow Martin’s wand, wilted and of a combination unsuitable for father or child. Having a proper pairing and learning of other peer’s wands, like Zoe Torret’s, occurred alongside Casey’s questioning of self in 4th and 5th year. Casey becoming more fluid in personality and gender also aided in recognizing the temperaments of wands, although he’s had no official training in wand lore.

Casey Trolled out of the Herbology final last year spectacularly, earning wrath of Professor Ishane Blair. He will face the consequences in September. On the train ride home Vulpes Connor got Casey to open up, somewhat, making him realize that his muggle mother Darla is far worse off than him in life. Casey shifted his schemes over the summer to get her medical care at St. Mungo's where she has a slow recovery. He later spent a time in St. Mungo's after trying to magically stretch himself taller. Casey and Dingy were also present when Landis Morgan launched an attack on the hospital.
Dark Arts - In terms of dueling, Casey saves particularly nasty hexes and curses for vigilante endeavors. Targeted, tactical violence to incapacitate foes as quickly as possible. During time in the Gwyllion Fae several dark subjects were studied, such as from the redacted Báthory Maleificum. Across personalities, Casey has threatened knowing the Unforgivable Curses.
:Casey’s newest wand won through dueling, the hawthorn & Horntail dragon heartstring, has aptitude towards the Dark Arts as well.

There was also other business to attend to. Casey delivered a package containing several Hands of Glory to the necronomicist Ventus Shang, having secured one for himself. Wanting to find out more about Shang, Casey tried to bribe an informant that worked in a teen nightclub, via disguise. Some previous soul searching with only Dingy being present, Casey found that after removing his amulet for the first time in years, his Hexy persona would be much more authentic. Casey, or rather Hexy, actually managed to have fun with Eha Farro.
Healing - From living with multiple allergies and the perils of dueling, Casey has retained some skill in healing magic. Only as far as field medicine is concerned, having the best from Casey’s average Potions and horrendous Herbology scores. The hawthorn & Horntail dragon heartstring wand is contradictory as strong with healing spells as it is with the dark arts.

However, Casey still continues efforts towards increasing his personal might. He trains at memory with a Penseive to prepare for future Occlumency lessons with Professor Ignan Storm. While waiting for an Invisibility Cloak to be bought, looking for books about invisibility caused him to run into Wren Spicer after her recent style shift.
Language - Casey has some understanding of Galiege but isn’t very proficient. If anything, he quickly picks up on models of speech such as accents or jargon.

Casey has formed an odd by dear friendship with Alvis Norling over the course of their Third and Fourth years, considering him an intellectual equal. Given that both have an innate inclination towards mental magic (Occlumency for Casey, Legilimency for Alvis) added to this recognition and gravitation into a formerly rocky relationship, especially after the Body Swap incident of November 2009. Some of the rockiness from Casey's own projected confusions about maintaining a sole identity. Eventually over the Spring 2010 holidays after a misguided attempt to fix some of this issues, Casey was able to confide his intersexual nature to someone outside of family. This in turn lead Casey and Alvis to an even greater discovery...

*Tarot Motif: XII - The Hanged Man; representing sacrifice, martyrdom, suspension and release. That the man depicted hangs upside-down by one foot indicates a tremendous shift in perspective. For the Hero's Journey depiction of Tarot, this is the last card the Fool meets halfway through the Major arcana before the ending/changing cycle represented by the 13th card, Death. Upright, the card reflects a particular need to suspend certain actions; perhaps a step backwards to find the proper path forward, or a repentance for past wrongdoings. Although difficult to admit or remaining in this period of loss and indecisiveness, the time in reflection will bring a critical perception towards big decisions. Reversed, as the upside-down man is now 'right-sided' things are superficially improved. Either there is no sacrifice and hence nothing gained, or the querent is stalling to avoid making changes. This could be a period of absolute standstill or entire efforts proving fruitless.

*Zodiac: The Dog; suggesting prudence, honesty, loyalty, determination and criticism. An auspicious animal, dogs are helpful and protective but often cautious to display trust. Once earned, they are steadfast companions and a sign of coming fortune. A courageous dog doesn't let themselves, or those they care about, get pushed around, as their bark can be just as bad as their bite. However they can also be conservative and stubborn, having difficulty expressing their feelings. Some worry too much and can't stand ambiguity, or have a fleeting dislike for being within large crowds.

*Horoscope: Capricorn; those born under this sign are pragmatic, tenacious, driven, and appearance-minded. They are fully in control of their destiny, never taking 'no' for an answer when their minds are set on a goal. Various aspects of life and new opportunities are challenges to conquer, and a Capricorn always delights in improving their skills. They have a sly sense of humor, where half the fun is seeing them come out of their shells. This makes them incredibly clever and detail oriented, but prone to exhausting themselves or others when tackling their ambitions. Both incredibly hard on themselves and judgemental of others, ironically falling into a narrow-minded viewpoint. Without a strong sense of self or knowledge of a system of rules to follow (or exploit) they can be paralyzed by freedom of choice. Also pessimistic, melancholy, remoteness, detrimental to personal development and materialistic snobbery.

*To represent the character's use of persona-based Occlumency on site, masculine-coded thoughts use the Courier font and feminine-coded thoughts use the Verdana font.

*Casey's masculine appearance has had three changes of Face Claim, also the most of any of Will's cast. Child, teen and adult ages were roughly mapped to Adam C Smith (as per the prologue of 1997 film The Saint), Will Poulter (as per credits in the Avatar Gallery), and Kenton Duty (post Disney Channel career).

Gender Identity

As a queer character, Casey’s sense of identity has shifted over the years. Casey was born intersex but raised as two different genders as a child. Her mother raised her as a daughter until the elder O’Doherty’s reconditioned the child into a male heir. Casey entered Hogwarts as a boy, yet he’d often feel gender dysphoria tied to both social and biological cues for being not wholly male or female given his atypical physiology. Origin

Martin O'Doherty went through his Hogwarts years under immense pressure from his family to continue O'Doherty name. If so, he would be permitted the ancestral family wand of hornbeam and leprechaun hair. He found an opportunity to abscond with a portion of the wealth he would inherit and lived a life of fancy among muggles, before charming Darla Higgins, somewhat of a debutante. As a wizard, he said he could provide for anything. However, he squandered his money which didn't help matters when Casey was born, as both mother an child were frequently sick.

Eventually, his parents were able to use their influences to seize Martin's assets and force his family back into the fold. Although now Martin would never inherit.

Casey was deemed the suitable heir when her grandparents realized the condition of Martin's progeny. Casey was 7 when this conditioning from daughter to son occurred. (The Changeover) After being silent for days, Casey's first surge of magic caused 'him' to burn all of the dresses being packed away in favor of a masculine wardrobe.

Casey was made to wear an Animus Amulet to appear male. With the displays of his magical potential, he was permitted to learn magic in ways to avoid detection by the Trace. Already born with a weak constitution, such early practice of spells would leave him exhausted, and Casey sported numerous allergies.

Casey is quite controlled, able to push subtle effects on dueling, such as curving trajectories, delayed impact or nonverbal casting while feinting with the wrong spoken spell.

Casey became versed with Pensive use alongside initial Occlumency training, both extracting and modifying memories.

Casey’s newest wand won through dueling, the hawthorn & Horntail dragon heartstring, has aptitude towards the Dark Arts as well.

Language - Casey has some understanding of Galiege but isn’t very proficient. If anything, he quickly picks up on models of speech such as accents or jargon.

Trivia

Note: Characteristic motifs are shared on both pages. Persona specific trivia follows after. Character Creation, Tropes, Playlist

 • Tarot Motif: XII - The Hanged Man; representing sacrifice, martyrdom, suspension and release.

 • Zodiac: The Dog; suggesting prudence, honesty, loyalty, determination and criticism.

 • Horoscope: Capricorn; those born under this sign are pragmatic, tenacious, driven, and appearance-minded.

 • To represent the character's use of persona-based Occlumency on site, masculine-coded thoughts use the Courier font and feminine-coded thoughts use the Verdana font.

 • Casey's masculine appearance has had three changes of Face Claim, also the most of any of Will's cast. Child, teen and adult ages were roughly mapped to Adam C Smith (as per the prologue of 1997 film The Saint), Will Poulter (as per credits in the Avatar Gallery), and Kenton Duty (post Disney Channel career).
