Gracie Slant

From Absit Omen Lexicon
  • Name: Gracie Agnieszka Slant
  • Age: February 14, 1993 (17)
  • Occupation: 7th Year Slytherin at Hogwarts
  • Play-By: Astrid Berges-Frisbey

Gracie is, in short, green-eyed trouble with a capital ''T''. Lazy but brilliant, witty and innovative, she’s the mastermind behind many a new spell and a cheerful participant in many a shenanigan. Nor does she care much for the rules and norms that hold others back; a free spirit through and through, she loves and let goes quite easily—although whether it’s because of an independent streak or her own abandonment issues remains to be seen. Nevertheless, she rules the Duelling Club and the Slytherin Quidditch Team capably, secure in her own rank and ability, and is quick to put an end to bullshit when it arises.

Wand

13”, black ash, hag hair; supple.

Ideal for Transfiguration and Dark Magic, particularly hexes and curses, but terrible at Healing. Due to the nature of its source, hag hair is often thought of as unreliable, even dangerous to those it has been gifted or passed on; they tend to be especially sinister when paired with yew or elder. In a perfect match, however, they make powerful wands, clearly favoring ingenuity.

It reacts in the presence of hags or hag magic.

Childhood

February 14, 1993; Ipswich, Suffolk, England.

Born Gracie Agnieszka Howell, Marceline changed their names after moving back to St. John's Lodge. After Marceline left for parts unknown herself, it was just Gracie and Eamon Slant, her grandfather.

Without Marceline, things were... better, for the most part. But Eamon was not especially affectionate, and determined to do better with Gracie than he apparently had with his daughter. And so instead of hugs, there was training. Swimming, gymnastics, archery, martial arts... Growing up, Gracie was a busy kid. There wasn't a lot of time to spend dwelling on what – or who – she didn't have.

Still, she was lonely. The lodge was a grim, drafty place, devoid of hugs or homey smells, and seemed to grow lonelier as she grew older. She's since grown accustomed to it – embraced it, even – but even now the manor remains resoundingly silent.

Hogwarts

Brilliant but lazy, Gracie nevertheless achieve high marks in her classes and leads an active academic career. She is both President of Duelling Club and Captain of the Slytherin Quidditch Team, and in her free time practices her Animagus form and develops new spells and potions with her fellow Nightshades in secret.

To date, she has OWLs in Ancient Runes (E), Arithmancy (E), Astronomy (E), Care of Magical Creatures (E), Charms (O), Defense Against the Dark Arts (O), Herbology (E), History (A), Potions (E) and Transfiguration (O).

Relationships

Gracie is well-known, if not popular, among her peers, but choosy when it comes to friends and role models. Of those she cares about the most, Naomi Foley, Alexandra Carstairs and Raine Almasy take priority; Tracy Jones, a Salem alum, is like a brother to her. She is also quite fond of Ji-Hyun Jeun and Micah Gallagher, good friends with Jordyn Dimbleby, Eli Amherst, and Blythe Blackwell, and looks up to Dietrich Eisenberg, Izola Bellamane, and Shona Donovan.

She is not so close with Theo Whitman, but there's mutual respect there (albeit grudgingly on her part)—which is more than she can say for her grandfather, Arviragus Howell, or her own parents.

Trivia

  • Myer-Briggs Type: ENFP (The Champion)
  • Moral Alignment: Rebel Neutral
  • Her favorite drink is hot cider with firewhiskey.
  • She is quite handy with a roll of duct tape.
  • She also makes her own rotgut, which has been likened to liquid cocaine in that imbibing enough can make a person hungover and high. Hogwarts, though, has yet to taste it (which is definitely for the best).
