Solly

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Solly is the house elf tending to the Gamp household in Godric's Hollow. She was bought by Mortimer Gamp and Lyra Gamp when they were head of the household. She trained under their previous house elf until it became too old.

She is now under the direction of Andromeda Gamp, plus Cepheus Gamp and Orion Gamp if they visit. (Andromeda now lives in the family house.)

Appearance

Solly prefers to wear different patterned pillowcases as her uniform.

Skills

Solly has the usual house elf skills, with particular talents in cleaning. She prefers to arrange dinner on the kitchen table and then use elf magic to transport it from one table to another in the same manner the Hogwarts elves do. She rings a bell to indicate the moment. The Gamps consider her cooking excellent.

A bell rang from the kitchen, and the three siblings hastily lifted any limb from near the table top as Solly performed her greatest trick. Dinner transported from the kitchen table to the dining table in an instant. A beat later, the elf herself appeared with a bow.

Recent History

While the house in Godric's Hollow is out of bounds, Solly stays with Andromeda Gamp. To console herself with the guilt of what has happened to her master and mistress, Solly cleans Andromeda's flat obsessively.

The house elf was upset. Andie was not doing a good job at making her feel better. She had let it clean her apartment. It was really clean. Like REALLY clean. But the house elf was still sad. Now it was really really sad.

Tomorrow we will meet Aunt Andie and Solly and go to the house as the Ministry say they have finished their work there. Solly’s been staying with Andie and apparently her flat is so clean you could eat your dinner off the floor. She must be very stressed, poor elf.

In February 2011, in the wake of the Mischief Unmanaged plot, Solly is beside herself at the state of the Gamp family home. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement has searched the whole house and the cellar is burned black from Mortimer Gamp's magical accident. [1]

The house elf’s feet pattered on the stone floor before them, dismay clear in her body language from behind.

“Solly apologises sir, Solly’s will try to-.” She turned in a flash to face her owners, anxious. “S’alright elf. Keep your ears on.” Orion placated, and reached out to ruffle the head of the house elf like he might a child. Solly cowered and squeaked, ducking from the touch before it reached her. Ceph’s eyes snapped down from the state of the house to the being half their size. “Woah, woah,” he interjected, “Steady Ri, she’s as on edge as we are.” He made a mental note to sit down with Solly and check how she was doing. It was his duty both professionally and personally. She’d been in the house when it had all happened, poor thing.

Behind them came an ungodly wail. Ceph’s blood turned cold and he twisted round in fear. On the floor by the foot of the stairs, on her knees in the dirt was Solly, beside herself. “Gods,” Cepheus spoke, his heart descending from his mouth to his chest. “Solly, come on, it’s alright, let’s get you out of here,” he left his siblings and pocketed his wand, extending his arms to the elf like a hug to move her away. He cast a glance over his shoulder at the other two. “We’ll have to bring some lamps down.” He suggested, dismissing the notion that they could examine the damage by wandlight alone while the house elf uttered apologies to him through her sobs.

In late January 2012, Solly is most pleased to cook a roast dinner for the three Gamp siblings when Orion Gamp visits (though he turns out to be Lyra Gamp in disguise).
