Head of House

The Head of House is a title given to staff members at Hogwarts. In addition to their regular duties and teaching they oversee the operations of their house, enforcing discipline and such. The Head of House also oversees the house quidditch team and gives career guidance to students in their fifth year.

The Head of House has the authority to expel students of their own house, the Headmaster being the only greater authority in this matter. The Head of House is also involved with selecting prefects and putting forth candidates for Head Boy and Head Girl. More informally, Heads of House often exhibit the core values of their House (good or bad) of which they attended during their own schooling.

The Head of House title is independent of the Deputy Headmaster title. In the nineties Minerva McGonagall was both Head of Gryffindor and Deputy Headmistress, while recently Ignan Storm is Deputy Headmaster but does not Head a House.
